View Full Version : Trade for Stevens?

Heard a story from an unrepeatable source that Essendon are going to go after Nick Stevens big time in a trade this year. What for in return is in question, but some thought is a 1st & 2nd round pick + Mark Bolton, with Port giving us their 1st round back (Port's is likely to be higher than ours). Thoughts?

No thanks. Judd or no one.

They'd want too much, and he'd want too much.

Every victorian club in the AFL has simply moved its focus from Judd to Stevens. But I am fairly confident that if Essendon do trade for him it will be a win / win. We haven't lost out on too many in recent times (although I am still ****ed that blumfield left for SFA last year, although if they had've gotten Alvey as intended it would have been good.)

I prefer the other trade recently mentioned in association with Essendon. The one where we give draft picks plus attacking key position defender (please let it be Wellman and not Bolton) to the Doggies and they give us Murphy and Alvey.

Even more that that I would like to keep our list in tact this year and have a red hot go at Salopek next year. With this years draft apparently a little light. And only Watson and Cartledge as our listed players born in 1985 (at present). We have room for Salopek, and a position for him. Start hitting him up now, get him thinking about returning to Victoria, somebody send subliminal messages to him.... Essendon are best... Essendon are best... Essendon are best...

:p :p :p

I wouldn't mind seeing Stevens in the red and black but not for Bolton - trade Henno, Cory McGrath and a first round pick.

i'm waiting for a port fan to come on here and go "ha ha ha, you think you can get stevens for that?, keep dreaming bombers, dreaming" (tell me it doesn't happen in every trade thread)...

It's understandable though... Port knows little of the power of Bolts...

That sounds about right.

Port will only trade if he wants to come home. If that's the case, it would be a fair deal for them. As Essendon's first pick will be in the 9-11 range, it would take more than just a first pick to get Stevens.

Bolton is expendable because Essendon have Fletcher, Jacobs and Wellman as tall defenders; Lloyd, Lucas and Hird as forwards.

With Reynolds, Richards, Hunt, Laycoc k and Johns waiting in the wings, Essendon would be crazy not to trade a tall for a player like Stevens - exactly what you need.

Fitting him in and staying under the salary cap, however, is a different issue altogether. This would bring Scott Lucas into the equation.

Notice I haven't included Henneman. He has no trade value and his only chance of continuing as an AFL player would be if someone like the Bulldogs took him with their last draft pick.

Henneman has no trade value is true this year.

But play him as second ruck, and at times CHB during the 2004 season and there will be interest in him.

Players of his size and strength do not come along all the time. There are clubs that need his type of player. Let him prove himself next season and then make a decision as to whether he is worth trading or keeping.

 After all, look what Hawthorn got for that hack Trent Croad. :D

and the way harvs was talking about henneman on the radio last saturday, i'd be suprised if they got rid of him.. very valuable player, adds alot of flexibility to the team, or so says harvs... must be why he's back in bendigo this weekend!

hopefully just talking him up for trade week!:D

anyone know how old stevens is?

so long as a few of the following davies, barnard, henneman, mcgrath and alessio are off our list at the start of next year i will be happy!

It's fairly amusing, as far as I can tell, the only club Nick Stevens wont be playing for in 2004 season is the King Island Creams.

Nick seems pretty happy at Port, and with a good strong, deep list, a team that looks likely to figure in the finals for a few years to come, why would he want to leave Port?

Granted, he may want to return home to Melbourne some time, I'd just prefer it to be later rather than sooner.

In the spirit of the thread, if Nick wants to go home, wouldn't Port be in the driving seat?

There are 10 Victorian teams Port can elect to deal with, trusting (hoping) that Nick will not want to enter the draft for uncontracted players, Port could pretty much hold an auction, just don't tell the AFL commissioners..;)

If the Bombers come on strong for Nick, I'd expect the Pies, the Blues, the Tigers etc to be very close on the heels of Sheedy et al, in attempting to entice Nick, and tempt Port.

BTW. Nick's DOB is 3rd Jan, 1980

I don't want Stevens.

He's too short, too old, and his best footy is behind him

Besides, his wife is a bit of a **** and I'd hate that to be the reason one of our star forwards fall from grace.

Nick Stevens is 23 years old, is of medium height and is reasonably quick? Why wouldn't you want him?
