View Full Version : Tim Hemensley RIP

Anyone who has frequented the dingy rock haunts of Melbourne would know the name Tim Hemensley. Lead singer/bass player of the Powder Monkeys, bass player in Bored! and jack of all trades in God, Tim was a stalwart of the underground Melbourne rock scene. Sadly Tim passed away late on Sunday night. The Melbourne (indeed the worldwide) high energy rock scene will be lessened by the loss.

On a personal level, I not only have lost a person whose music I enjoyed but a good friend as well.

"Your my only friend, and you don't even like me"

Yes I remember little Tim well.

At the time I was a huge fan of God. They were really young kids at the time - there parents used to drive them to gigs IIRC.

My Pal - a ball tearing song with a great riff and not played enough IMHO.

Thoroughly enjoyed Bored too - remember seeing them (with tim on Bass) early 90's as support act for Mudhoney at the Barwon club in geelong. Powdermonkeys on several occasions at the Meredith Music festival.

May Tim rest in peace.

Jesus thats awful news. I never knew Tim but I saw a lot of God and Bored! and even that band they were all in before God-cant remember their name but they had a song called 'Miss Helena' about one of the playschool comperes.

Its strange I was talking to a mate last night about all the people who have died in the last couple of years.

Do you know what he died from?

The Age reported it as a suspected heroin overdose.

WOW! I didn't realize he was in GOD.

Your My Only Friend was a great song, I remember it well.

R.I.P.

Wow, there's a surprise.

No great loss.

It was well known that Tim had a drug problem and sadly (even though he tried) could not get himself clean.

As for "no great loss" perhaps you'd like to say that to his parents' face. To his friends' face. To fans of his music. It is very easy to hide behind a computer and post supercilious one-liners.

**** stick.
you probably don't even know who he is...

I can remember hearing 'My Pal' on RRR MANY MANY moons ago, thinking, jeez, that's pretty damn catchy (and not really a style of music that I like generally either).
Followed God (the band, not the deity) from then on.

"The day they buried Hemensley" indeed...

RIP

Missed this post way back when, Rusty.

Really sorry to here of the loss of your buddy. A devastating loss for rock'n'roll.

Exactly how old was Timmy ? A friend and I compiled quite an extensive list the other day of rock stars who have passed away at the age of 27 ... although I would imagine Tim was a few years older than that.

"Time Wounds All Heels" will live on as one of the great rock albums ever to come out of this country, and the legacy of the Powdermonkeys in the form of that album and some other excellent recorded stuff, as well as the memories of some mindblowing live shows, will forever survive.

Tim was just about to turn 32 which is way too young to check out. However his lifestyle was well known to us and as much as it was a shock, in some ways it wasn't a surprise.

Probably best not to comment on things you know NOTHING about!
