A question for anyone who remembers:

I'm always trying to remember what my first football game was. I know it was either vs Geelong or Collingwood. What I do know, is that the Collingwood game was in 1996, and the Geelong game was either 1995 or 1997. Whenever the Geelong game was, we were not expected to win, Geelong were strong favourites. I went with our local footy club, and GFC said we would be able to go into their rooms if they won (as they assumed they'd win), however, they lost, and we won (obviously). Weren't allowed into the Geelong rooms, either. ;) It was at the MCG. Does anyone know what year that was?

I think thats the one Johnny.

Excert from "The Bomber Missions: AFL Season 1997"

Blake won his wings and a distinguished Service Medal at the MCG on Sunday August 1, 1997. He took over the controls and beat the premiership favourites of his own boot. Four major scores for the day and two in the last desperate dog fight gave Essendon their greatest win of the season.

The book later says he started on the bench!

About that mark he took:

Caracella said of that mark "The ball is there and you have to go for it, or you look like an idiot. Right at the last minute the ball just came at me further than I thought. I had to brace myself otherwise I would have been killed. I knew Wally was down there somewhere. Wally's pretty good to you, he'd probably look after you. You had to go for it, the all was up there." He took the mark and the hit - "I still don't know how hit me yet."

Essendon 11.7.73
Geelong 9.14.68
