Michael Hussey, an important part of Australia's middle order, has said that he was forced to play in the Champions League Twenty20 right till the end of the tournament, which affected his preparations for the Mohali Test.

"Yeah, well I spoke a lot to Cricket Australia about it, but the decision was that their players were going to be available for the Twenty20 campaign so there was nothing I could really do about it," Hussey told AAP.

Hussey said he would have dropped out of Champions League early if he had the choice. "I just had to grin and bear it really, get here as quick as I possibly could after the final and just prepare as well as I can. I put my case forward, but they'd made their decision and I just had to go along with it really. I'm contracted to Cricket Australia so it's their call.

You really have to wonder where Cricket Australia's priorities lie.

I don't think Mike Hussey has anything to complain about, considering he's lucky to be in the Aus team for the past 2 years. Not happy about having to play the entire CL? Well fine then, don't play for the Aussies afterwards... sure lots of Aussies would be happy

Well CA can't really pull the players out of it, politics involved somewhere...

What the hell are you talking about cooldude?

He was forced by CA to give meaningless a T20 Tournament priority over a Test Series; that's bloody unbelievable!

The Champions League is a competition owned by India, RSA and Australia and they always try to have a window available where all internationals are available. I am not suprised CA told Hussey to play there.

The Tests should always get priority over that meaningless crap.

Only problem I have with that is making the call to play him in the tests. He's hardly vital anymore. If they weren't happy with his prep, he shouldn't have been in the starting 11 for the test series.

As CA is one of the three partners in the CL and the BCCI and CSA had their internationals in the tournament, I don't see how they could allow Dougie or Huss to pull out.

Random question - if CA is a partner in the Champions League, does that mean Australia will be hosting it at some stage in the next couple of years?

I remember when Hussey had a test average of 85 odd.

I think they may- I remember the tournament being designed as a rotational one. However most of the money comes from India and the timings for peak evening work well with South Africa.

Also every year the dates are different depending on the international calender. Realistically Australia could only get it if it was October-December period.

Remember when he smashed that ton against the Saffers, batting with Glenno?

Good times.

I miss them.

The selectors still remember those times as well. Until they forget them, he's in the starting line-up.

So, anyone now where I can get some roofs?

At the end of the day the playrs signed to play and they know the hectic schedules.

The ICC really has to open a windown for Twenty20 and give adequate breaks to the players. Until then the players have to cop it and fulfill the contracts they signed!

You really have to wonder where Cricket Australia's priorities lie.

Same as any other professional sporting body .... $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Not surprising. If these guys sign up for it they're expected to be avaliable.

What's he averaging this series so far? Been pretty average. Watch him keep getting picked and conjure up a ton to save his position for the next few matches.

people might remember the initial debate about players signing up for the big money vs. players saying they play too much cricket, packed schedules, etc. players arguments against tight schedules lose traction if they've signed up for the dollars in spite of it. sorry huss.

James Sutherland believes that T20 cricket is just as important as test cricket

"Michael had nothing but the best intentions of preparing for and playing for his country as his absolute priority but there was a fine balance between a high profile, elite club T20 competition and preparing for international cricket."

And this guy is calling the shots?

Awesome.

T20 will attract teenage girls to the game who'll watch it a bit, or go to the games as a social event, but wont be long term supports and wont follow it properly.

They're going to sacrifice Test Cricket to chase crowds and support for T20, but it wont work.

Purists (real cricket fans) want Test Cricket, they're going to lose those people, and they aren't going to attract the new people they think they will.

It'll weaken cricket as a whole.
