When the Blind Side is considered a sports movie you know things are getting grim.
Sport plays such a huge part in day to day lifes yet in recent times in particular it has become a non event in terms of movies.
Any reason for this. Lack of creative ideas?, actors unwilling to play sports stars, lack of marketing/sponsors support. Some of my favorite movies of all times centre around sports and its starting to urk me that nothing is coming out to wet my appetite.

The stories are generally cliché with a simplistic outcome.
The yanks usually produce a baseball movie every couple of years.
They come in waves.

You are kidding right? Sports movies are generally the most cliched load of crap you will ever see.
1. A group of misfits combine to form a team usually with a background of racial / cultural diversities. Conflict ensues. They are the laughing stock of the town.
2. Said team struggle in a low-grade / regional competition all the while struggling to unite due to their differing backgrounds / socio-economic situations / political or family orientations. The team's good guy breaks up with his girlfriend as he begins to follow the crowd and forgets the reasons why they were together.
3. The team slowly starts to improve thanks to a new inspirational coach who teaches and educates the individuals to unite as one. The coach no doubt has an estranged son. This team becomes the great beacon of hope compared to the bigger, stronger competition who are entrenched in their old ways.
4. Tragedy strikes as their key player gets injured, kicked from the side as not embracing the new team ethos, or pulled from the team by an over-bearing father, the coach becomes sick, they can't afford to get to the nationals / Olympics / World Champs etc.
5. The team fights this adversity as the community begins to warm to their endevours. The group becomes stronger and more united. The team's good guy makes up with his disenchanted girlfriend as she begans to see he is changing his old ways. At this stage they will socialise as a team and fight the demons surrounding them from outside sources. The team's clown will provide some comic relief as they go out drinking. No doubt they will meet their rivals out on the town and conflict ensues.
6. The team makes the final / championship game / gold medal match against their greatest rivals who are also the alter-ego of this new ethos, only to see the odds are stacked against them thanks to corrupt officials, opposition favouritism, bitter crowds etc. They are given no chance.
7. Our team is behind entering the final quarter / half / set. The inspirational coach will call on a no-name or pull a surprise move out of his hat. The commentators call him crazy. The last 20 minutes of the movie will be centred on the last minute of the game. With seconds remaining on the clock, our team score a miraculous touch down, goal, basket etc and they win by one. The crowd go nuts. The estranged son makes up with the coach.
8. In the aftermath everything changes for the good - the town sees the error of their ways, the team unites for the good guy's wedding, our prejudices are smashed to a pulp. Americans are the good guys once again.
Wash, rinse, repeat.

Wash rinse repeat actually sums the problem up fairly well.
Why do sport movies have to be cliched. Wrestling isnt a sport but that type of style of movie in the Wrestler is what should be done to most sports.
Huh? Sports movies come out all the time. There's one or two on American football alone every year. Same goes for baseball.
The last sports movie I really enjoyed was Invictus.

The last great sports movie i saw was Miracle with Kurt Russell. It's about the 1980 USA Olympic Ice Hockey team. Great story well told.

obviously made up by some person, but a lot of great movies on here. :thumbsu:
The self titled true story of the American race horse "Ruffian" is the one of the best and least talked about sports movies ever made. ( Yes i consider this a sports movie!)
Absolute must see. :thumbsu::thumbsu:
