Somehow, I get the feeling that Damian Cupido is one of our best pickups in recent times, and I'm certain Brisbane will regret letting him go, and we've come out on top big time with the Caracella/Headland/McPhee/Cupido deal.

In today's game against the Dees, Cupes had a part in at least 5 goals, 3 of which he kicked himself, all in the first quarter, but after starting with a blaze of brilliance, he seemed to peter off, with the low point being a moment where he tried to kick a goal by himself when he could have just as easily handpassed to Lloyd in the goalsquare. Once somebody manages to drum into him that it's a team game and that there's no room for selfish play, he'll develop into a superstar.

Because of injury, he's only played a handful of games, so he's still prone to patches of inconsistency, but he's done enough in his short time at Windy Hill to convince most of us that he can play, and it's fantastic to have another forward option other than Lloyd, which gives us a hell of a lot more flexibility in our game plan.

By the way, in case you haven't realised, I'm new here. No points for guessing who my fave player is. :D

Long live no. 13! :)

He went off for abit with a slight leg injury/strain.

He did his part. He dosen't have to play 4 blinders, as long as he kicks a few each game, or helps out like last week, he's great value.

The best part is he's still young.

I think he will probably spend his whole career as an up & down player. Nothing wrong with that as there has been a lot of good/great players who have been like that.

If he can remain fit and give something when we need him most then that is all we ask (Long, Kickett & Bewick).

Has anybody else noticed that he flinches occasionally?

He definately avoids hard contests if he can help it.

"Class personified" maybe.

"Toughness personified" he certainly ain't.

Jury's still out as far as I'm concerned.

Is only young.

Certainly shows more promise than others on our list of the same age.

More importantly he loves the Bombers and appears as if he is trying to improve his football each week.

It is near impossible for a forward pocket to kick goals every week. It is important for him to find a way to have an impact on a game even if he isn't having one of his "on" days. That and consistency would be great.

Cupes certainly could end his career not having shown his best. But I would be surprised. Looks to have that determination to succeed.

As for backing away from the contest. At times (though not all the time) that has to do with him wanting to be free to pick up the crumbs. That is afterall where we want him the majority of the time.

No-one is proclaimig Cupes as a tough nut, I knew what we were getting after watching him in Briz. He was brought in to finish off the work off Johnson/Johnson Solomon, etc, done. He was brought in to take pressure off Matthew Lloyd, done. He was brought in as another forward option, done.
The boy has two very dodgy shoulders, the boy is still a boy, the boy has been a steal, they can have Cara, I`m quite happy with our South African. To throw Smoky McPhee into the deal, well it hardly gets any sweeter.

... and if you saw the Bris/Port match you will see that nothing has changed.

Very happy with our Cupidoll.

lol yes, over at the Brisbane board they're ranting about how soft Skunk is, and how he's the worst player to wear their guernsey. They even claim he's a mole who Essendon put there to make sure they lose. Well Done Skunk! :)

Im just waiting for the day he kicks a bag of 8+. It's inevitable.

Best foot skills at Essendon - don;t need him doing the bash and crash - leave him to finish off - will be a pinch hitter midfielder next year - and will get more and more game time there over his career.

Plays for the guernsey and has all the skills - including a raking left foot. Leave the kid alone. Only need to get him to play in front more often - thats his biggest weakness.

I'd say his biggest weakness is the size of his head. Friend of mine used to play with him at Eastern Ranges and said that cupes thought the sun shone out his ass.
You may have noted that it has taken the players a little while to warm to him because of this. Mark Johnson especially looks like he has taken a little bit of a disliking to the young fella.
I'm sure Kev has noted this and is already at work remodelling his psyche in a more appropriate form. Once he gets his head right, Cupido is going to be a genuine superstar for our club.

he has to bridge the gap from his best and worst.
When he's hot, he's hot, but when he's cold, he's ****in freezin!!!

Half reminds me of a young ****atoo-collins - used to hurt us just as much he he helped us. Gotta put your body on the line, do 1%ers etc even if your having a shocka. Cant just turn into a ghost and have zero influence on a game.

Cupido isnt as bad in this regard and is a better player IMO - but some similarities there I think.

Oh man Smokin' I hope to goodness he is nothing like CCC. That guy iritated the "you know whats" out of me! Could have been a superstar at Essendonif he was mentally with it.

C'mon Cupes prove you are no CCC!!!!
