POTTER PUBLISHER PINCHES PAGES

A Copy of the latest Harry Potter release with pages missing has left a hole in the plot for eight year old Erin B____. His copy is missing pages 625 to 672, but has pages 673 to 720 repeated.

Erin, who turned eight on the 17th of July has been voraciously attacking the popular tome.

Erin’s mother Jodi approached the MacPherson Printing Group, the printers of the book to see if she could have a replacement copy. MacPherson’s claimed it was none of their responsibility and directed Jodi to Publishers Allen and Unwin. An Allen and Unwin representative told Jodi to return the book to the store it was purchased from.

Jodi explained that the book was a gift from Erin’s Grandfather, in Melbourne, 1600 kilometres away from Jodi and Erin’s New South Wales Mid North Coast home. Erin’s Grandfather had lined up on the book’s release day in order to give Erin an early birthday present.

"He’s had the book for eight week’s now. The dust jacket is missing, we can’t take it back to the store," says Jodi, who also doesn’t want to embarrass Erin’s Grandfather.

"How long does it take for an eight year old to reach page 625. This is a product problem that you’re not going to notice for several weeks," said Jodi, who is very disappointed at the uncooperative response from the Printers and Publishers. Both Allen and Unwin and the MacPherson Printing Group have refused to offer a replacement copy.

A MacPherson Printing Group representative told Jodi that it had been an unusually successful run, with only 300 out of 750 000 copies reporting faults.

"I’m very upset," says Jodi. "Whatever happened to pride in one’s work. Whatever happened to pride in your product. The bookshop is not responsible for the shoddiness of the book. All we want is the missing pages."

Meanwhile the B_____s would be keen to hear from anyone who is missing pages 673 to 720, as they have them.
