View Full Version : Why North Must Go Regardless of His Ton

This has been mentioned before, and the way he was bowled in the second innings was just horrible. He played completely down the wrong line and had no idea.
Below are his second innings stats. Twice in 14 digs he has passed 50, only 5 times has he reached double digits (and one of them was 10).
We keep talking about batting collapses, well he certainly ensures the wicket keeper is under serious pressure in the 2nd innings with two quick wickets falling.

Heard Taylor on the radio this morning and he was strong in his opinion that Australia needs to get a wrist spinner into the team. Taylor didn't say that North must be the one to make way but surely his inconsistent scoring is hurting the team more than his occasional "timely" score.
The other one who in my mind has to be at risk is Hussey. Given enough chances he'll score runs as he has shown in the past but the problem is that they are all in the same boat at the moment. The only consistency at the moment is the top of the order and even then they are not scoring big runs...but at least they are scoring some runs.

Huss and North should both be axed.
They wont do it, but North *has* to go before the Ashes, and Hussey immediately after.
North is a massive liability, we're effectively batting one down most of the time.
How can we honestly expect to post/chase a decent second innings total when a key part out of batting order is, quite frankly, shit.

Norths ton surely keeps his spot for a few more tests which is why I mounted the argument for him to go.
The problem is his incredibly hit and miss nature. It puts far too much pressure on the middle.
The only way I would keep him is if he drops to 7 and Hauritz departs the team.
Dropping both North and Hussey would be ballsy and risky coming into the Ashes with an unsettled line up - but on the other hand, we might just get some youthful exuberance back into our batting.

I don't see how unsettling a team that has lost 3 tests in a row can be a bad thing meself. The last day against India they looked like a rabble, in fact most of the 2 match series, the fielding was poor by Aus standards.
But the selectors won't 'unsettle' them. Continuity is far more important to the Aus selectors than letting some fresh air into the batting line-up.

Hussey, Hauritz and North should be sent packing.
Clarke has been just as feeble in the middle order.

That is the issue. The selectors will see it that way.
I only want North in the team if Hauritz gets replaced by another seamer.
North got in the team as an all-rounder (without his spin bowling that shield season, doubt he would have got a gig).
Time he started proving that he is as good as Hauritz (well reeally we need better).

They should get rid of North and bring in Callum Ferguson.

If at any time we are 4 down for cheap you can put your house on North going cheaply as well. if the score when he comes in is less than 150 he averages about 10. That is simply not good enough. He needs to go, inspite of the ton he just hit.

Just made 19 from 73 against the Poms on his home pitch.
Piss off North.
Just got out for 19 off 73 balls to Stuart Broad. Awesome signs.

bloody minded stupidity persisting with North.
almost as stupid as dropping a rampant Mike Hussey in 05. :(
Hussey 2 years too late in the side and so far 1 year too long :(
