Hussey was interviewed on 5AA here in Adelaide last night, pretty worrying interview, even the great Mr Cricket seems to have his head buried in the sand about how bad things are.

Prideof posted this in another thread, but I think it deserves it's own;

When asked about his position in the side and our top order, he said that, when assessing the Australian batting order, you need to take runs out of the equation at the selection table.

I was listening as well, and when he said this, I couldn't believe it.

Runs should be 90% of the consideration regarding who is picked - if they aren't the dominant factor, no wonder North (and as much as I hate to say it, because I love the guy) and Hussey continue to get picked.

What's next, wickets aren't a factor in picking bowlers?

I can't believe how pathetic we've become, and how weak and insipid the culture of the Australian XI setup has become in the space of a couple of years.

We're a joke, #5 is deserved.

Elvis you speak the truth, but you, I and others of the same opinion would be painted as the lunatic fringe as far as CA is concerned.

The top 4 people in CA are asleep at the wheel and let's face it given the dollars they are on you are going to protect your territory as much as you can.

James Sutherland is doing OK but some of his decisions of recent times are a bit baffling but I'd keep him.

Andrew Hilditch - time to go, I thought Greg Chappell was taking his role but obviously not.

Tim Nielsen - everyone is calling for his head yet he got an additional three years - baffling!

Ricky Ponting - I have never been a fan of his captaincy or the type of environment he would appear to have created. The whole scene is way too comfortable at the minute.

As alluded to in other posts - no one is going to walk away of their own volition given the huge dollars involved. We need strong leadership at the top not a boys club.

In my opinion, players have a right to defend their position, even as unbelievable as Husseys comments are.

The fault lies with the pathetic selection commitee who continue to select underperforming players, taking the stance that they are 'backing them' when in the real world they are not prepared to make the hard decisions that are needed to keep the Aussies on the top.

The fact that Hussey and others keep making excuse after excuse to a point where they have made that many that they resort to this crap means they have been selected too long

alfy!

Are you guys sure he wasn't talking about where he bats, not whether? So he was saying that runs don't matter with regard to who opens, who bats 3, who bats 4, 5, 6, etc?

Sounds like it:
when assessing the Australian batting order, you need to take runs out of the equation

This statement has been taken slightly out of context but nevertheless quite funny.

It's not Hussey's fault, he is a good bloke and doing his best, but unfortunately he is no good and is probably wondering what the selectors are smoking.

I remeber watching the last Ashes series and thinking 'we really need to drop Hussey'. Since then he hasn't played one great innings and is somehow still there... Ugh.
