Who do you think is the best Australian Batter in both tests and ODI's? I think that Ricky Ponting would be the best batter in the ODI's for australia. He is such a great player and can cope under the pressure of being Captain. Best Test batter is a harder decision though. I think Hayden at his best would be the best but he hasn't been at his best recently. Currently I would say Steve Waugh.

Australia doesn't haven't any batters, they can be found playing major league baseball in the good ol' USA.
However, I reckon our best BATSMAN is probably Ponting just over Hayden and Gilchrist with daylight next..

Ponting and Hayden then to Gilchrist (who while his average is superior never faces fresh bowlers with a new ball).
Steve Waugh is in good form but quite frankly I'd almost back myself to make some runs coming in at 3/150 or thereabouts against some of the bowlers he's recently faced.
Ponting and Hayden have been making consistent runs up the order in the big series over the past year or so. Of note they have typically made their runs in the early matches of a series - stamping their authority and setting up the series wins.

Dave Nilsson was a pretty good batter when he was at Milwaukee, but agree the best batsman is Ponting.

Ponting in both forms of the game, followed by Gilchrist in ODIs (whatever happened to Bevan's invincibility??) and Hayden in Tests.
The entire Australian batting lineup are all hacks I tell ya.
Hacks, the lot of them!
