There's been a lot of talk about the crowd at the MCG on Wednesday and what the crowd will be like for the game today at the SCG.

I'm sitting here at work, and I thought to myself, "If the weather clears I might head down to the SCG after work and watch the second innings."

I go onto the Ticketek website, and the absolute cheapest ticket for an adult is $40. Plus the standard Ticketek robbery of a $5 fee. That's in a bay. If I want anything under cover of elevated, it jumps up to $80 including the booking fee. Want something behind the bowlers arm? $105.

How do they expect to draw crowds to these games with those prices? Why does the concept of supply and demand not apply to these games? Surely they'd know that some relatively meaningless games against Sri Lanka before the Ashes aren't going to be the biggest crowd pullers after everyone spent their money buying Ashes tickets? The ODIs against England have slightly higher prices, and even they are a rip off. Cut those prices in half and I bet you'll draw a bigger crowd.

Do they offer cheaper tickets if you rock up half way through to see the second innings? If not, why not?

It's stupidity on the part of Cricket Australia.

I've been saying this for years. CA based there model off the English one. But England have march smaller grounds and a much population to build on plus lower costs. Australia on the other hand totally eliminated the bogan factor with ODI's by cutting down on the drinking basically means no one gives a shit.

The problem is that a good series against England every 4 years is hiding the flaws within Australian Cricket. IMO out of AFL, NRL, ARU, FFA and CA, Cricket Australis is the least performing body.

Never understood why cricket tickets are so expensive when crowds are so often poor. Correct me if I'm wrong but 15,000 people paying $40 makes the same as 60,000 paying $10... now which one looks better and has a better atmosphere I wonder? Sure more staff are required but all the extra food and drinks sold with 10000% mark up should cover their salaries for the day! Nothing says they can't raise tickets for likely big crowd games like T20 and Tests v England.

Tickets are what $30, thats for a whole day while we pay the same maybe more for a game of footy which takes 3 hours out of our day.

It's a massive rip off considering each main state gets a Test + 1-2-3 ODIs/T20s a year. And the product's average (look at who we have in the side).

Ticket prices in NSW are insanely high, just ridiculous.

Ticket prices seem to be going up every year, at least at the Adelaide Oval they're affordable. I'd have a really, really tough time paying $80 for a day at the cricket.

The cost is one thing, the other problem is the fun police. Being treated like children and forced to watch the game like it is tennis.........why would you bother?

Agree with that, BF, but that goes for all sports, unfortunately.

For ODI's, GA should be $20 and not a penny more, and they are to be sold at the gate. Reserved seats should be no more than $35-$40. Family passes should be no more than $70-$75 (2 adults, 2 kids). To expect people to cough up $150-$200 for a family pass before food is just dumb when people don't have that sort of money these days.

Woudl cheaper tickets have improved the crowds? Maybe marginally. If they had of halved ticket prices they might have increased the crowds by 30%. If that.

But CA are in denial about the popularity of one dayers anyway.
