Realistically what are our chances of getting him next year?
Obviously the doggies won't be able to afford him if he wants 500,000. But can we afford that much? And what (or who) do we offer for him in return?

But then again maybe young Nathan won't sell his soul and will elect to stay with the doggies.

So are our chances of getting him realistic, or not?

At 500k per annum, we don't want him !!

Have a look at the debacle we find ourselves in with McKernan, 400k per annum and another two years to go on his contract. Add to that Campo at 500, Whits at 500 and Manton at 250 and one would think that we should have learnt our lesson by now.

The other thing to consider is that Brown is a goal-kicking half-forward flanker, not a big burly CHF or CHB. He is not a damaging onballer either so the price-tag does not warrant picking him up nor does his positional value.

Would Carlton try and trade McKernan for say a Fraser Gehrig ?
The Saints need a ruck and McKernan would compliment the youngsters there plus Gehrig has had a good season and would top of a very good forward line for the Blues. Fevola, Whitnall and Gehrig would be very hard to match-up against

Dream on Blues, we wouldnt trade a God like Fraser for a Dud like McKernan, you would have to give us at least 2 more players to have a chance at Mullet Man

Have no interest in Gehrig at all. Much maligned until he kicks a couple of bags and suddenly he's a god. We have a full forward strong on the lead with good recovery skills, he's younger than Gehrig and will serve us well for some time yet. If we are to get rid of Corey, then Angwin seems a likely replacement up forward. Personally I like the idea of Corey and Angwin being a tall flexible double act instead of the lumbering one mark per game rucks we usually have.

We've got enough forward flankers... what we need are fast running players who specialise in the midfield. I would never take Brown for $500,000 and would never give away pick #2 for him.

A ruckman and a big body at CHB wouldn't be too bad either!
