Since when has David Wirrapunda been known as the Wiz?.

I heard this phrase used at least twice by Basil Zemplis whilst he was doing the Channel Seven Sport. A nickname is a nickname, but I would reckon that most football followers would know that this nickname is already "patented".

Is he called the Wiz by Eagles supporters or is the media trying to create something?.

First of all its Wirrpunda, theres no 'a'
Ive heard him refered to as the Wiz a few times over the year. It obviously comes from Wizard and the beautifull skills he displays. Id much rather call him Wirra though!

Not that it matters, but since Wiz is obviously derived from his surname and he first played in 1996, he would have more right to it than Farmer who debuted earlier, but didn't receive his nickname until he actually kicked some noteworthy goals (at least during or after 1997).

Fair enough, it's just that I have never heard him referred to by that name till lately. If you have a nickname, the media usually jump on it within the first season.

Still reckon the media might be trying to "hype" up the name.
