FFS lads they are the bloody poms! Since when are we scared of them, some of the stuff I've read on here makes me sick! The averages of some of their bowlers are terrible and we are scared of them and thinking they are world class?

They may be different people but by God they are still the same bloody Poms as when Athers and he's mates came across in the 90s. This is our path to redemption!

It's true.

I'm more worried about us, but if we show up, we'll take them apart.

Don't count me in, I was never worried about them and I was surprised by how excited a few of the English supporters on here got just because they beat Australia A.

I can't begin to imagine what the Langer - Hayden - Ponting - Martyn - Clarke - Symonds - Gilchrist line-up would do to Stuart Broad and Steve Finn.

Think most people are more scared about how ordinary some of our players are...

Because our batting line up is poo.

Esatto.

It's not like our batting line-up is a real threat to anyone now is it? And our bowling line-up - as has been proven yet again with the attack for this match - is unsettled and has been since SA toured 2008/9.

Not scared of England... just realistic we have played 5 marquee test series in the past 2 years.

2 vs SA

2 vs india

1 vs england

We have been comprehensively beaten and clearly the second best side in four out of five of these contests.

there's no way that the Ashes loss last year was a comprehensive loss and it has been widely argued that over the spread of the 5 matches we were in fact the better side who had lapses in two innings out of ten - which England took full advantage of to their credit. Please keep your ridiculous hyperbole to yourself.

we were clearly not up to the task in 09, we duffed our few opportunities and our two losses were comprehensive.

We cashed in as a team with the bat when things were easy and we collapsed as a unit when things got tough.

It's hardly hyperbole. And that excuse about the 'best stats' for the Ashes 2009 is one of the lamest things I have ever heard touted. You must believe the crap CA pump out on their site.

How often do the Aussies collapse? And how often do tail-enders hold out against our bowling? We've just had two recent examples in Mohali and the one day match v Sri Lanka.

This team/squad does not handle pressure well.

Not sure I would say we were comprehensively beaten in 4 out of 5. We had our chances to win all those series, except probably the series in India 3(?) years ago.

Well yeah we had our chances in some of those series but the common thread was we let them slip and then got crushed.

When it happens that many times over that many series it's more than just bad luck it's a sign of serious weakness in the team.

How many times in the last two years have we lost 5-7 wickets in one session?

Or had a team 7-8 down only to watch them bat us out of the contest?

Don't disagree with any of that.

Just my version of comprehensively beaten is different 'tis all. Semantics really. :)

aye. :thumbsu:

Although in my book any trip to England that ends with the urn in their hands is a comprehensive loss, especially as they are the masters of giving it to us with both barrels and really rubbing it in when the are on top.

Yeah ****ing spot on. England rode the mother of all tidal waves of luck to get over the line in that series. Rain knocking a session out in Cardiff when we were on the rampage, our bowlers and batsmen racking the stats up during the series. In 150 or however many years of cricket, it was the first ever series where the side with 4 of the top 6 wicket takers and run scorers was the losing side. A statistical anomaly, a freak result. We'll never see it again in our lifetimes.

Maybe if our batting collapses weren't there before and after that series and maybe if cardiff hadn't been replicated so often before and after that series i could buy all that.

But we lost in 09 because we couldn't in 15 overs dismiss a few bunnies and later we couldn't stop collapsing when England got the slightest sniff.

Those two fallibilities are still playing themselves out in series after series it's not bad luck when you repeat the same mistakes time after time.

Yeah we need some changes to be made. But we weren't comprehensively beaten in the 09 ashes.

I agree, Poms are a decent side but not a team to fear, we are every bit as gooas them and with the right attitude and application we should win this series. It will be a tough series but I really think we need to fire up and defend our country like it is a war.
