Why no National Anthem before the start of the Ashes?
Every other international sport has the national anthem before the start of the game.
Imagine the tingle that would go down the spine of every Aussie cricketer when the national anthem was sung and then the crowd let out a huge roar like at the Grand Final.
Both teams should come out and line up to the anthems.

Cant stand National anthems at Sporting events - that includes medal ceremonies at the Olympics.
You've got people going out to play a game - they're not 'fighting for the country' or 'defending it's honour'.

Why do you have to be fighting to have the anthem? They don't play it before battle at war?
They play it because the players or athletes are representing their country
The olympics in particular is about nations coming together - playing the anthem is particularly relevant

Care to explain why it's played for NRL home and away matches? What's up with that? So cringeworthy.

It's good that they do it and was happy to see both sides actually singing their anthem. Also liked how loud the crowd were when singing ours. :thumbsu:

Spoke to a mate that's been a Storm member for years. I thought it had something to do with playing at Melbourne's Olympic Park, but he said they have still been playing the anthem every week at the new AAMI Park. He thinks Storm are the only NRL side to do it for every home game, and when they stopped doing it in 2006 or 2007, some people complained, so they reintroduced it. When the Warriors visit, they play the NZ anthem also.

National anthems should only be played before national team games. In that respect I don't see why the AFL do it for finals games since clubs don't represent the country. Grand Final perhaps since it's the national pinnacle match of the sport.
LOL at the Melbourne Storm apparently doing it for every game :thumbsd::o
I reckon it's great in the finals AA. Really adds to the atmosphere, love having it at Subi.
But certainly having it every game would be way over the top, the way they do in the US for a lot of sports.

Weird. None of the other clubs do that.
Personally I think it's OTT at any domestic event, even the AFL Grand Final.
