Movie: Fair Game. (2010 movie) Rated M
Released in Australia: 25th November 2010
Stars:
Naomi Watts as Valerie Plame an undercover C.I.A. team leader
Sean Penn, her husband Joseph Wilson – a former US Ambassador to some African countries and now a struggling self employed businessman
This is a film about love and devotion to one’s country, one’s employer (The C.I.A) and to a husband and family. The sense of duty so strong that no matter what is said or done or how wrong, that, that duty, that loyalty, that belief that one has grown up with prevails over a faltering marriage and personal career destruction until a realisation is discovered and a new sense of what is right and wrong is achieved.
In reality this film should never have been produced but for a campaign to of smear that came directly out of the White House and the office of the Vice President. This film is based on a true story of Valerie Plume at around the time the U.S. Government under President George W Bush was making the case for war with Iraq volume 2.
Personally I am glad they made this film. Not only did I thoroughly enjoy the brilliant acting by both Watts and Penn but the script and story held you from start to finish and really filled in a bit of a back story to something as important as the Iraqi War 2.
It opens up with Watt’s in KL and soon in a position where we immediately think this woman is going to be kidnapped or raped before we quickly realise the power is with her. One of the best roles written for a woman in a long long time. Watt’s plays an attractive but not beautiful woman. I don’t think we see her in a skirt or dress, always the Gillard look of pants suits.
Fair game is a political thriller that educates. Not for everyone especially the kids, this is an adults film to enjoy by themselves.
