The most annoying character thread made me think of TV characters that have continued on after an actor left. I am pretty sure that some characters have even been played by 3 different actors.

One character on this show - Rebecca - was paid by three separate actresses - Jane Hall, Belinda Emmett and Megan Connolly, and in something of an eerie coincidence, both Belinda Emmett and Megan Connolly both passed away before their time.

In the 1990s English sci-fi sitcom Goodnight Sweetheart, Gary's (Nicholas Lyndhurst) 1990s wife Yvonne and his 1940s girlfriend Phoebe were played by Michelle Holmes and Dervla Kirwan respectively in the earlier series, but unusually they both left at the same time and were replaced by Emma Amos and Elizabeth Carling.

In the recent American sitcom 'Til Death, Joy and Eddie's daughter was played by three different actresses, despite the show lasting just 4 seasons.

TV series, they usually just spring it on you. Although some soapies actually put something on the screen advising that a different actor is playing someone's part. Sometimes it is just because they are sick or on a break, just like an understudy in the theatre.

Ann Veal in Arrested Development was played by two actors (first actor only did one line I think).

Also Marta in Arrested Development has been played by 3 actors. The third time was an inside joke and was only in some flashback.

The series had only 3 seasons.

On The Simpsons Mr Burns was voiced by someone else in an early episode, as was Moe before it was redubbed just before airing. Lunchlady Doris' voice actor and inspiration for her character Doris Grau died and someone else voiced her in future episodes. Also someone who does plenty of women's voices including Maude Flanders left for a while and was voiced by someone else.
