Adam Ramanauskas will undergo surgery today to remove a second tumour from his neck and shoulder area. The operation is similar to the procedure Adam underwent earlier this season. As a result of this latest surgery he will miss the remainder of season 2003. “Adam has a rare growth known as Fibromatosis – the same type of growth that was removed earlier this season,” Essendon Football Club doctor Bruce Reid said.

Bloody hell the poor bloke can't take a trick. Hope he can put this behind him after the surgery and get on with life.

“This tumour is benign but is locally aggressive. The recurrence was diagnosed two weeks ago and since that time has been fully investigated by a team of specialists.”

“The surgery is to be performed by a team of specialists. The surgery is delicate and – as was the case with his first operation – there is a risk of nerve damage. We can’t be absolutely certain what affect this will have on his long-term playing future but the early detection has given us the best chance of ensuring Adam makes a full recovery.”

Essendon chief executive Peter Jackson said once it became apparent surgery was necessary, Adam’s welfare was the only issue considered by the club.

“Adam’s health comes first and as such there really wasn’t a decision to be made when it came to the timing of the surgery. The medical advice Adam received was that he would benefit from having the surgery now rather than waiting until the end of the season,” Jackson said.

“Adam fully understands why the operation is necessary and is now focussed on getting himself well. I'm sure I speak on behalf of all members and supporters in wishing him all the very best with his recovery."

Adam requests that his and his family’s privacy be respected while he recovers from the surgery. Any further comment on this matter will be made via the club and with the approval of Adam as this is a personal medical problem.

The Club understands that many Essendon fans will want to wish Adam all the best in his recovery--You can leave a message on the essendonfc website.

Hope that all goes well,
it is pretty sad.

just heard on the news that their is a slight chance that Rama may never play again, as a result of the surgery - there is a chance of nerve damage, which would end his career :(
