Well new title, Western Magpies coming back to form a 11 team comp with 16 rounds with a couple of byes for each club.
Anyone know when the daw comes out, lets be serious and this will be a tightly fought out comp. Any player movements, anywhere? I will let you know of new recruits as soon as they are confirmed. Bring on 2011.:footy::thumbsu:

Ferguson and brown to mside. Falconer and massingham to aspley. All leaving mayne. Spoon?
Noosa have picked up key forward plus mills and bailey from maroochy. But lost brain to aspley and reynolds to wa. Be hard to beat again.
Grange picked up cale agosta from aspley. Maybe fee others.
Maroochy lost bailey and mills, matthews retired? White back to vic
Slide for kangas?
Obrien coaching palmy again so expect comeback season.
Tom tarrant rumoured to be cooly bound. Good pickup.
Any springwood info lenny?
Sandgate dont seem to have any big names this year. But shouldnt lose any. Dickfos playing again.
They are the gossip ive gathered so far.

noosa and the maggies will be the teams to beat next year. noosa are a class outfit and what i saw on grand final day.anyone on their day can beat them, a pretty good effort would be needed to beat them. that midfield is strong and is at a state league class

I know the maggies didn't win a game in Div1, but div 2 is a total different story.

Only pickup I know of for Springwood is a 6'5 injury riddled average at best player, moving back up from Melbourne.
Have heard we're averaging 40 on the track though which is pretty bloody amazing for us pre-Christmas.

I would put Sandgate very much in the mix.
Would have one grand final if "smalls" weren't injured.
Plenty of depth having one reserves
Having 11 teams in the comp is ridiculous
One side should have been made to drop out so 18 rounds consisted of home and away games and percentage which will decide finals places has true meaning
Whoever draws Mayne twice will have the advantage of a percentage boost.
I would expect a better year from the Gorillas we Marto coaching and a few players moving over there.

If thunderdoc is sandgate bound next year then they have no chance as his teams usually lose with him in the mix.:D.
Magpies will not be any good as most of their good players are state league bound and the ones that have stayed will be Brisbane Lions bound every week

Massingham staying at Mayne
Falconer at aspley and from reports doing extremely well. Was offered club captaincy at mayne but apparently wants a crack at state league
Maroochy players not happy with something at club. R White and many many more leaving.
Apparently Sandgate haven't had too much player movement. I hear there reserves will be even stornger this year.
Dickfos 100% playing in 2011

Great news about Massingham, he's been solid for Mayne. Totally understand Falconer he will be an asset to Aspley, all the best.
As for Dickfos, no words can describe his endurance, his value to this game. He's an absolute legend of Queensland Footy!

Ryan Sawers back at Noosa after a couple of years break, Rumours of Matthew Hicks returning to tiger land, Dayne Frew the new forward at Noosa from BFL.

Noosa will be short priced favourites again by sounds of it. Although take reynolds and brain out of gf and sandgate prob win. Hard to replace because they are so versatile. Where has hicks been? They won this year without a key forward, he would be massive inclusion. How old is he?
Anyone got update on maroochy players leaving and why?
Springwood had 70 to training? Will they improve and are there any good recruits?
Draw will be intetesting, when is it out. Could give sides big advantage depending on who plays who once or twice.

Maroochy will lose a few due to the natural attrition of Qld footy clubs. A few were planning to do so last year but they managed to get an extra year out of them. No major issue at the club.
Another couple are chasing a flag and switched to Noosa (and with that kind of character/loyalty you can understand the straight sets loss out of the finals this year), while Stanley has taken a Captain/Coach role at Nambour.
White has ambitions to play in Victoria and will certainly be a big loss if he does. Been a loyal servant to the Roos despite much bigger offers over the years.
Reports are new coach had already recruited a few to replace to exits. Time will tell.
I wouldn't hand Noosa the flag just yet, Magpies should be strong as will PBC with Obrien reported to be reappointed.

60 and 70 on the track all sounds great, but in reality its a nightmare for coaching staff to structure a quality football session with this many people on one oval. And how many actually last the whole year? I dont think i've ever heard a club spruiking that they've had 60 or 70 on track in the middle of June. Sawers at Noosa will be a very good get. Knows only one way to play, hard at it and super fit.

Where is Lobb headed?
Lobb has spoken to every club in Sth Qld - loser
Mayne, Mt Gravatt, Grange, Yeronga, Coorparoo, etc etc - ego loves being fed.
Last year he spoke with everyone but onlky had time to start at Magpies then Labrador for a few weeks and then 16 games and 64 goals at Burleigh - big year.
A shame he is so different as he can kick a goal
Mills & Bailey great pick up for Noosa, harsh to question loyalty and reason for slipping out of finals in straight sets, both players a key to maroochy even playing finals in last few years, not to mention the character it takes to play with the rival club, news is they are both looking for some on field success which is what most footballers play for...
will be an interesting local derby this year.
Noosa Had 125 at training, 100 of them there for the sausage sizzle......
Has Sawers ever played fit before?
Clearly Lobb just to nice to say no to anyone.

Unfortunately loyalty is something that doesnt seem important any more.
Having said that their are the clubs that have built up a great club culture and make it hard for players to want to leave. Morningside great example of this, despite having minimal capacity to pay players, probably less than some piney clubs, they seem to retain most players from year to year and obviously have a great junior structure, resulting in 4 flags in last 10 years, great testament to their club enviroment. The transient nature of QLD footy, particiularly on the Gold and Sunny Coast also make it difficult to build from year to year
Mills and Bailey will be very good pickups, probably both in top 5 or 6 at Maroochydore and will add depth to already strong playing list.
Sawers is fit until someone upsets him, then becomes instantly unfit usually as a result of broken bone fragments in one and possibly two hands. Has been undertaking high altitude training at Lindfield Circuit which is 3 metres above sea level and 80 degrees!
Apparently Lobb has indicated he would like to play a game with each Pineapple club this year!

Maroochydore has a new committee which is trying to introduce a new culture into the club which isn't 100% senior football focussed. Being left with a massive debt after 2009, 2010 was about trying to keep the club afloat and the onfield performance was a bonus.
2011 see under 18's into div 1 for the first time for about 4 years, a new direction with a chance in senior coach and apart from a few high profile departures, most of the seniors and reserves back. A couple of disgruntled reserves have followed Stanley out to Nambour and I am sure they won't be missed. Maroochydore have recruited well with a few interstate player additions that will fill key positions, as well holding onto the top couple in the best and fairest from 2010.
Re: Mills and Bailey. Disappointing decision to see them go to Noosa, when they could have easily played for Aspley in a much better competition. I think you are spot on about the lack of character comment. They are trying to steal a cheap flag by joining a strong team, which shows plenty about their character.
If players are unhappy with the club then better to let them go elsewhere than have negative feeling around the playing group.
Focussing on the u18's and junior levels will be what brings success in the future so credit to maroochy for taking this stance.
I've never heard of a cheap flag in any competition in football, going to Aspley an option for Sunshine coast players? not really an attractive idea to play in a top league with a bottom side, why not set a goal of breaking into the top side from the previous year, there is no given position for anyone to turn up and play seniors & the added chance of maybe playing good finals football.
From the past i've scene maroochydore put in huge efforts against their local rivals (noosa) both home and away, they play with passion an really gel as a team, it's a shame they havent had the same commitment in finals.
The reality is if Maroochydore beat Noosa during home & away season in the past they celebrate like they have won a flag, victory laps and high fives and singing on the ground, its embarrassing to watch and maybe the culture that make's key players want to look elsewhere....

not sure which games you have seen where roos have beaten tigers, but certainly the last 2 years there hasn't been any victory laps or singing on the ground. pretty standard dribble from noosa supporters.
In regards to Aspley, what a stupid comment. How many coast junior stars have gone through Aspley/Zillmere over the years? Why not have a crack at the best the state has to offer. I am sure both of them would be valued additions to Aspleys midfield.
I will leave you with a small thing to think about. Nathan Buckley left Brisbane for Collingwood becuase he wanted to play finals football. How did that work out for him?
Buckley, was it 6 B&F'S, 1 Brownlow, 1 Norm Smith, 7 All Aus, Jesaulenko medal etc etc Great Book you should read it......
Being a bitter Brisbane supporter you should be happy you had him for one year as Port Adelaide where not in the comp...
Are bailey and Mills gun junior's looking to be drafted and wanting to play state league? Maybe just looking to enjoy there football.
Anyway,
Walker back at Aspley from sandgate?
Chris Judd in Noosa at the moment, maybe he will get on board to steal a premiership

Josh walker staying at the hawks, has done almost all preseason so far. Another walker could be a hawk to, his brother who has huge raps on him also a chance if not picked for state. Rob lucas only loss for hawks to retirement. From all reports they should be very strong again. Few handy pickups to add to mix as well.
Wonder what buckley would rather, all his individual honours or one flag?

No offence to them 376, but neither Mills or baliey would make any state league midfield, big differance.
Anyone know wots happening on the Gold Coast? Surfers built a foundation around youth last year and won a few at the end. Cooly looked pretty young as well. Have they recruited experience to compliment this?
Palmie wouldnt be happy with the way they exited the finals and if O'brien coaching again i'de expect them to be up there again. Burleigh were the pick of them all and if they'd been able to take their chances in the prelim against Noosa, they would have beat them. They are well coached and play genuine team 1st footy. They did however have a few older blokes who would be close to the end of their careers.
Agree sweetie, im sure Buckley would trade all individual honours 4 a flag.

you might want to tell aspley that...
Buckley got his premiership medal as assistant coach.
Agree burleigh looked dangerous at years end, had lots of injury problems, Fletcher almost took them into the GF this year & had LOBB been on the ground more probably would have made up the 4 point end result.
Springwood where ferocious at home near years end and took it up to most teams, fast and young team.
Grange will probably move further up the ladder, Marto would drag a few key recruits in the door.
Is forbes going around at sandgate again?
Draft draw has the comp starting 9th April - Ending 13th August, 2 byes as stated prior. Late start and early finish, why not play 18 rounds!

I didn't realise that only juniors wanting to be drafted played state league. Makes sense, seeing as so many people are drafted from the state league and everything.
I am sure if Aspley was a top 5 team last year they probably would have considered it, but seeing as Noosa won a flag, makes sense to drive an hour up the road to play in a team almost gauranteed to play finals, in a division they are well capable of playing, instead of driving an hour down the road, and playing in a division that would test them, in a team that might struggle in 2011. Especially for Mills, who had one of his worst season's last year, he would have to work extra hard to play seniors.
Brendan Fevola was reportadly in Nambour on Monday. Maybe Ben Stanley is talking to him?
Aspley tried to recruit every onballer from the pineapple cup didnt they, Spoke to the top 6 at Noosa, Why aim at DIV 2 players to build a competitive 1st DIV side.
However they did secure Brain (Unlikly to last there)
I think Pomona have already spoken with FEV, less media up there...

Season 2011... a vastly different setup to last year.. Welcome back the maggies and a potentially stronger noosa..
Lucas Matthews onboard for another year?
What has brought Hicks back to the club? Retained L.Bauer?
M.Rogers a big loss from grange, a few more following the the exodus over recent years.. Will the recruits cover this?
A.Pianta still at Burliegh?, they retained a strong list, and added with their usual interstate fly-ins?
Springwood's massive numbers include the mtgravatt pickups from last year, or are they disappearing?
Mayne to suffer dramatically without 'the rock' C.Brown
Surfers and PBC very quiet on the recruiting , O'Brien to get the winning feeling back?
Who is coaching the Magpies this year?
Is Long stilling having a run around? Will the Hawks be up and abouts this season, or drop off the pace.
Which club in vic has R.White gone to?
Never even heard of this lobb bloke, even at Burleigh.....

Pretty sure Pianta retired last year.
Mayne will miss Brown, in their situation they cant afford to lose players of his quality and good bloke.
Last years reserves coach is coaching magpies, surely their better players have filtered out to Div 1 sidse and they will lose theier best under 23 players to the lions most weeks, may struggle if this the case.

my picks for the year to come.....
-Frew to kick 100 goals (noosa)
-a Gold coast coach to leave mid season
-Mayne to win first 2 games
-Magpies to lose first 2 games
-Fevola to sign with southport
-cooly top of the ladder after round 5

this was a joke right?
firstly, you are a typical noosa supporter if you think anyone from noosa will kick 100 goals this season.
magpies will lose first 4 champ. they have all away games first 3, MNS, PBC and Burleigh, then there best hope is Noosa at home in week 4.
Fev will move back to Melbourne to be with his family if he is sacked.
How will Cooly be top of the table after 5 weeks, then finish in the bottom 6?
Grange won't play finals, from what I am hearing they have lost more than they have gained, and they didn't play finals last year.
Aspley tried to recruit every onballer from the pineapple cup didnt they, Spoke to the top 6 at Noosa, Why aim at DIV 2 players to build a competitive 1st DIV side.

no disrespect to mills and bailey, but they would not get a game in aspley seniors midfield. the noosa players approached aspley, with lucas matthews organising it. they were lucas, page , brain and brewer and i think reynolds. have you considered aspley maybe looking building some depth with so many young kids in the squad
The Ratta_tat_Cat
12 Jan 2011, 17:40
The aspley sporting club could of easily built a side around a key ruckman, 2 gun onballers and two solid flankers.. Why did only one sign?
Bailey has done nothing in the pineapple cup, apart from be a solid contributor to an overall under-achieving side? Mills has his top 3 games here and there, depending on his interest.. Whats the incentive of an hour drive to the sportos nest if he's not up to the midfield spot in your eyes??
Plus aspley is unlikely by all reports to be involved in the future higher tiers of the east coast football growth.... Whereas growing the junior depth allows for good stead in the higher brisbane comp on a points system??
-Frew to kick 100 goals (noosa)
frew, who the fk is frew? You must mean Hicks. These frew blokes are obviously mates of yours if you're on his bandwagon too.. Yeronga were below average in 10' , need 6 pineapple cup walk ups to even be competitive. Club with great history tho.
Cooly and surfers to be bottom dwellers.. good stir up on the magpies.. did they retain V.Pope?
Who did grange lose from the season gone apart from the champion Rogers?
How'd the swamp handle the recent rain? Any sure footing left up there?

Couple of ladder predictions floating around, figure I'll give it a crack.
1. Noosa- Only lost 3 games all year, lost Reynolds and Brain who were huge big game players, but good depth. Matthews getting older, Brauer a gun, but midfield depth hurt by losing those two. Pick ups all seem like they will add depth as opposed to star power. Still the benchmark but.
2. Sandgate- Rob Lucas retiring hurts defence and experience, but not irreplacable. Dont seem to have lost to many, and if Forbes, Walker, Ben Drew and Fabian all stay fit are as good as any in comp. Dickfos going again, can they send him off a with a flag?
3. PBC- Should have good core and arguably best midfield with Horn, Dyson, Bloom etc. Plus top ruckman in Ianson. O'Brien coaching again and sure to want to make up for last years early finals exit. Plus hard to beat at home.
4.Burleigh- Could finish from 4th any where up. Few of their better players getting older, and Pianta retiring is a loss. But if they keep same list and add a few like they seem to each year, could mirror Sandgates improvement this year.
5. Magpies- Coming back from top level should see them have at least a dozen who will be exellent in this comp. Lions thing will make them a week by week proposition. And if they get injuries to key players, plus losing 5 to lions, could struggle at times. Other weeks if all fit and available will be tough, especially at Chelmer.
6.Springwood- Maybe dreaming with this, but they werre much improved last year and pushed most sides. Young team who have played together for a while now and if they can add 4 or 5 solid seniors, might surprise a few.
7. Grange- New coach, should attract some new players. I think they will improve, but will depend if their best players all stay on board.
8. Surfers- Another team rebuilding with young guys, still have some quality player in Green and Fenton, but may lack depth.
9. Maroochy- Bit of an unknown but Im goin off the loses posted on here, and the White potential loss. If he stays they are 7 goals better. Is Ben Matthews playing again, and will knees hold up. Take out Bailey and Mills and they could lose big chunk of their key players. Might be a little like surfers were this year after making prelim year before and having to rebuild after losing players.
10. Cooly- Very young last year and copped some floggings, rebuilding.
11. Mayne- New coach might mean new game style which cant hurt, but loss of Brown, Falconer, L Ferguson hurts them. Need to recruit well to avoid spoon, hopefully they do.
Im just a silly old man and you may think they arent in right order, happy for critics to have a crack at a list though. If they would put a draw up might impact ladder to, depending on who gets to play who once or twice.

this was a joke right?
firstly, you are a typical noosa supporter if you think anyone from noosa will kick 100 goals this season.
magpies will lose first 4 champ. they have all away games first 3, MNS, PBC and Burleigh, then there best hope is Noosa at home in week 4.
Fev will move back to Melbourne to be with his family if he is sacked.
How will Cooly be top of the table after 5 weeks, then finish in the bottom 6?
Grange won't play finals, from what I am hearing they have lost more than they have gained, and they didn't play finals last year.
Hey 376, for the interest of myself and others could you pleaes explain what a typical Noosa supporter is?

Reckon thats a pretty good assesment Sweetie, although think your being a bit generous to Whitey saying they are a 7 goal better side with him in it. Also Fenton for Surfers has his best footy behind him, but needed to help develop the kids.
no disrespect to mills and bailey, but they would not get a game in aspley seniors midfield. the noosa players approached aspley, with lucas matthews organising it. they were lucas, page , brain and brewer and i think reynolds. have you considered aspley maybe looking building some depth with so many young kids in the squad
Yeah, good point & fair call, For the record though Paige and Brauer where approched not long after the GF by Aspley, Both of them and Matthews had already decided to stick together and when Fletcher was reappointed at Noosa they commited for another year.
Aspley, Under a full season with Russel Evans will be a top 5 club.

not sure about brauer but page did train with aspley proir to signing with noosa last year. page also spoke with morningside. im pretty confident that lucas approached aspley and told them that he could bring 4 or 5 with him. anyway its all history now.
the phc or premier division standard of footy has improved over the years and i think the better players could make the transition into state league footy without too much hassle.

I agree on one hand and disagree on another. The PHC has improved over the years but IMO the State League has improved at a faster rate, therefore the gap has widened. Having said that the best 20 players in PHC would be good enough to play SL, but probably not too many more. The best players in the best sides (Page for example has been chased by a couple of clubs) would definitely step up no worries however not sure how many from the likes of Cooly would be up to it.

Mate Phil Lobb is a great bloke he lives in brisbane so maybe he is just seeing whats out there so he doesn't have to travel down to the coast. He would be the best set shot for goal in the comp and can send them home from any angle......... almost got 50 goals this year from 12 games if he stays at Burleigh which in the end he will he will kick alot of goals with Fletcher, Powell ( if he can keep his head right ) and a super fit J.Butt sending them in...All three of them blokes are in great shape....
Surfers have being on the case of a few ex juniors/southport players, playing in melbourne. From what i've been told they've got there boys.
Also PBC have lost Bloom as he's headed back to albury to play a holbrook.

Racking my brain on what the Aflq community could do to help flood victims. Thought about maybe a game between Div 1 and 2 premiers of 2010, being Morningside v's Noosa with all proceeds to go to the relief effort. I know it there is a big diiference between the comps, but think it would generate some interest. Players pay 10 dollars to participate and 5 dollar general admission. Both clubs provide volunteers for match day operations. Game played at Morningside to maximise supporter potential, one week before season and heavily promoted by Aflq. Thoughts people?

Yep both the club and ground at Sherwood flooded to signifcant level, almost '74 level. Plenty of people were there yesterday helping clean up.
There'll be a full weekend of cleanup ahead for a few clubs I think.
No word yet on playing elsewhere until the ground recovers. I think they'll want to avoid that as much as possible.

Sherwoods oval needs two days of drying out, then a mow and it will be good to go. Maybe they wont train on it next week. Good to see two clubs not even in the same competitions as Western Magpies getting down in numbers to help them out. My understanding is that Aspley and Griffith Moorooka showed up in numbers to assist.
In a nutshell there is the spirit of community footy on display.
We can all hate each others guts next week.

Yes they were under too.AFLQ headquarters was flooded but only the ground floor.
Yeronga's ovals were not turfed and the main oval wasn't even leveled yet so they are worse off than others. Sherwoods and Kenmore's ovals had water over them for two days but are still solid under foot. None of the grass died, strange thing is they want a few showers to wash the thin mud layer off the grass. Biggest drama is the power to the lights. Two weeks tops before they are kicking footys on there again. UQ,s training is probably going to be severly affected as they werent even allowed to wear boots on the oval prior to the flood. Jindalee juniors coped it pretty bad. Does anyone know how Strathpine, Caboolture and Kedron fared.

most players in the PHC would go around uncontracted, and possibly not recieving any match payment.
Some clubs pay all players a set amount, with contracted players recieving more. ($100-400 a game contract, $25-$50 game all players)
Some clubs pay a couple of contract players, and have a big kitty in the 3-2-1 where they might pay the top 6 or 8 each week. ($300-$800 in the kitty for 3-2-1)
Some clubs might do a combination of both.
All clubs must pay a minimum of $18,000 in player payments, with a cap of $38,000. Cap is the most stupid thing in football, how do you monitor a cash business like a footy club paying cash payments to players?

Reynolds is a solid loss for Noosa, though they have easily replaced Brain with apparent new players Such as the Big man Dane Frew (Bendigo), Mills (M/dore), Bailey (MDore) but think Bailey is a wingman isnt he? Looks like Noosa's forward line will be super this year, combine that with their backline which from what i'd seen last year was strong, and surely top 2 midfields in league. i'm tipping Palmy & Noosa comfortably top 2 finish.
