It's a bit on indictment on our team when the top 4 in total kicks are arguable our worst kicks.
267 Bradley Ebert
264 Andrew Embley
259 Beau Waters
225 Matthew Rosa (his kicking has improved a lot though)

Yes Ebert needs to work on his kicking skills... but lets consider this for a second.
He is often compared to against Dangerfield for the reason that Adelaide were expected to take him. Many people think Dangerfield is a gun but read this stat from Champion Data.
Dangerfield was 5th at Adelaide for kicks inside 50.
Only 1 of his 43 kicks into the 50 resulted in a mark for Adelaide! The worst in the AFL
In any case. I think Ebert will improve and he has good attributes so if he fixes up some of his kicks then he'll be great for us.

NAB Cup Game 1:
In-depth report: A pretty dirty game from Ebert to start off the NAB cup. He collected 5 disposals (all kicks), kicked 1 goal, received 1 free kick and gave away 2.
Ebert's first kick was near the boundary just outside defensive 50, which shot out of bounds on the full by a few centimetres. His 2nd kick was far better; a long punt inside 50 to a pack, where Naitanui dropped the mark he should've taken.
After that Ebert soccered a goal, as he read the ball off hands and reacted quicker than a few West Coast team mates. At this point he seemed to be laying the foundations for a solid game. 1 nice kick and 1 goal against 1 poor kick.
Sadly he didn't carry this positive momentum further as his next touch of the pill resulted in a holding the ball decision, as he was slung around while looking for a suitable handball option. This was about 40m out from West Coasts goal so it wasn't devastating by any stretch.
Ebert's 4th kick was one which really should've hit a target. Running outside defensive 50 Brad had a few targets on the wing and plenty of time. He unloaded, however his kick struck a Hawks player on the foot, as said player was trying to establish position and facing the wrong way. The bounced off the foot and was gathered by an Eagle.
This particular passage of play ended well, due to weight of numbers at that contest, but it could've been far worse. The optimist would say that Ebert made a good decision to kick to a 3 on 1.
Brad's final disposal came with about 2 minutes left of the clock. Hawthorn were down by 3 points and threatening to steal the game. Scooter, I believe, was about 30 metres from our defensive goal and looking for a target. Ebert lead towards him and Scooter honoured Brad. As Brad went up for the mark he copped a hit to the head causing him to drop the ball but he was awarded the free kick for his trouble.
With the disposal from the free, Brad kicked up the line to Kennedy but the depth of the kick was off and it sailed well over JK and JK's opponent. The overly ambitious Kennedy made matters worse by flying for a specky and giving away a free kick. Not long after the ball was inside our defensive 50 again.
Overall: Brad worked hard inside and outside but his kicking let him down badly.
Rating: 3/10
Selection: It was probably planned beforehand that Brad wouldn't get a run in our next game against Fremantle.
Fun fact: Bard Ebert doesn't give a **** about what you think.

Worsfold says:
Mark Duffield: Do you measure the rate of development of your young players against other clubs and have your youngsters developed as quickly as you expected?
JW: There are certain stats that you look at. Champion Data do stats on first round draft picks. Someone like Shannon Hurn was pick 13 and out of all the first round picks in his draft he ranked 7th as of last year so he is batting above average. Brad Ebert was a pick 13 and is ranked tenth.

Cool. Would love to see what those stats are and the rankings.
I'm guessing its probably just their average SC ranking.

Don't be stupid, SC takes into account disposal efficiency. He would've been quoting DT points. ;)
Under average SC points, Ebert is 9th out of the first round. In total SC points, he's fifth.

In all seriousness, Ebert is some improved kicking away from being considered probably the best young player on our list.

Liked his pick up and goal, twas very classy and he read the play superbly. :thumbsu: Can't fault his effort and intent, he just needs to improve his kicking, which can also be a mental issue when you kick a few shockers and it is talked about as much as it is.
Thought he played a great game. His kick over the top to J,K was awesome.

NAB Cup Round 2:
Stats: 8 kicks, 4 handballs, 3 marks, 5 tackles, 1 FA and 2 goals.
Position: Mainly HFF but also spent time on ball
In-depth report:
The good
2nd quarter 3:09 remaining - Hams drops a chest mark 30 out directly in front, which Ebert swoops on. He gathers cleanly at high pace and kicks truly for his first goal.
2nd quarter 2:12 remaining - Harbrow kicks inside 50 for the Suns, but Ebert floats past the Suns target and takes a strong overhead mark inside defensive 50. He plays on as soon as he hits the floor, side steps an opponenet and kicks outside 50 to Weedon, who he hits on the chest without Weedon having to breaking stride.
3rd quarter 8:37 remaining - Cox, from the bottom of a pack, slips out a small handball which Ebert cathes very nicely at his ankles. As soon as he takes it, he sense the pressure around him and gives off a handpass to lynch who has far more space.
4th quarter 3:32 remaining - Ebert collects a handpass about 15m outside defensive 50 with space in front of him. He runs it 10 odd metres and kicks up the line to Kennedy. The kick is perfectly weighted and it floats over kennedy's opponenet onto Kennedy's chest. Josh ends up having a shot on goal from outside 50.
4th quarter 1:52 remaining - Ebert Finds space behind the pack after a throw in inside forward 50. He receives a handball from Priddis, turns an opponent around and drills a goal from 25m, directly in front.
The bad:
1st quarter 9:12 remaining - McGinnity kicks long from a back pocket, Cox spoils from behind the pack and Ebert catches it. He takes 2 or 3 steps and kicks it up the line to LeCras on the wing but misses the target and the ball lands out on the full by about a metre.
3rd quarter 7:22 remaining - Ebert wins the inside ball after a throw in near half forward. As soon as he gets it he's tackled but he gives off a handball to nobody, rather than showing composure and finding someone.
4th quarter 14:55 remaining - Ebert gathers a loose ball in a pretty tight space. He gets a light tackle straight away and he litterally hands the ball off to Gaff, who is running past. The umpire spots this and give the Gold Coast a free kick.
Overall: Uncharacteristically low disposal count for Ebert but he hit most of his targets, worked hard and kicked 2 goals.
Rating: 7/10
Selection: There's an outside chance that Ebert will be rested against the Magpies next weekend but it's doubtful.
Fun fact: With 3 goals so far in the NAB cup, Ebert is West Coasts leading goal kicker.

Great write up Jimmy. If Ebert can improve his disposal, I think he will end up being a very serviceable player for us longterm. He will never be in the top 3 mids in our team but we could do worse than have an player like Ebert as our 7th or 8th mid. I do like him as a high HFF looking to kick a few goals. Seems to have a nose for a goal - not something I can't see Masten or Selwood doing -and also limits the damage of his errant disposal. Still think we have a couple more frustrating years of riding out his disposal issues.

He seems to have tweaked his kicking style a little bit. Also is it just me or does he look a tad slimmer and faster this year?

Thanks everyone, I'm going to try and make the reports and highlight videos a regular thing this year. :thumbsu:

I can't say I've noticed a change in kicking action for Ebert (which is not to say it hasn't changed), and I wouldn't say he's slimmer, although he does look faster. I'm assuming OP and other injuries are having less and less of an effect on him.

So, I'm not doing those highlight videos any longer (stopped after that first one, haha) but I will say this - coming off his 4 goal game, Ebert had 10 tackles and 100% disposal efficiency last weekend, according to that inside 50 show.
Not a bad run of form. :thumbsu:

There's an article in the Herald Sun today where Jimmy Bartel picks a few youngsters that have caught his eye.
He writes:
SCOTT SELWOOD and BRAD EBERT (WC)
THERE are a few at the Eagles, but I chose these two. Like his brothers, Scott is strong and uncompromising, tackles hard and often takes the biggest job against the best midfielder. I can't remember him lowering his colours this year.
Ebert is very similar to Joel Corey - you don't realise how big the guy is until you get next to him. Tall and can run hard. A good finisher who can play anywhere.

Good to see BRAD Ebert getting some recognition from someone like Bartel but articles mistakenly calling him Brett are starting to really annoy me.

You should watch the recent Inside50 episode. They mention the reason was that Ebert leaves his dirty underwear with lots of skidmarks lying around :P

Brad played his first ever final today, hopefully the first of many, and got a 6 out of 10 ranking from AFL.com
This ranking made him the equal 6th best Eagles player.
Brad Ebert - 6
Started on the bench and worked well as a link man when he came on. Was briefly used as a defensive forward on Heath Shaw.
