5. Braun- fantastic game. Worked his arse off, and showed an enormous amount of heart. Made me feel like a twit for ever having criticised him.
4. Chambers- Impressive comeback game. Begs the question as to where the **** he's been for the previous 18 rounds.
3. Jones- Worked his butt off, did some good things.
2. Collica- Solid as ever in defence.
1. Sierakowski- Made the most of his opportunities, A rock in marking duels at either end of the ground.
Cousins, Matera and Staker also could have been votegetters.

A would've though it better to blood one of Hansen or Seaby, or give Lynch another chance to see how he can go.....
At a loss now?
He played very well, good to see the old Subi Boy get back to AFL level and play pretty decently!

I know you'll all think I've gone mad, but these are my votes:
5. Jones - kept his opponent, the dangerous Burton under control, ran all day and presented to take overhead marks
4. Hunter - kept his opponent, the dangerous Perrie, to 1 goal and was a damaging player going forward too
3. Braun - tried hard all day and did some good things on breakaways, but spoilt his day with some poor disposals - see below
2. Wirrpunda - got his fellow defenders out of jail time and again and wasn't afraid to concede goals to his opponent Burns to serve the team cause (of Burns' 3 goals, 1 was in the back, 1 not his fault at all and the other I can't remember). Gives us run out of the back line and can kick long or short to a teammate
1. Sierakowski - played CHF as a target, in the ruck as a pinchhitter and wasn't disgraced and probably won at CHB too. Did remarkably well in the circumstances.
I haven't given votes to:
Chambers (lots of possessions, but fumbles and indecisiveness going forward and no defensive pressure, though he did well considering it was his first game back from the WAFL),
Kerr (10 tackles but didn't follow his man back defensively several times, including directly causing 2 goals that I saw and repeated awful disposal by foot),
Cousins (tried hard and led well on occasions, but got most possessions when it was too late),
Judd (10 tackles but just doesn't follow his man and had little or no attacking effect)
Matera (without his 4 goals we'd be stuffed, but he's playing as a leading FF going into the pockets which damages any chance Wilson or Haynes have to lead properly and makes us very indirect).
We lost the game because:
a) our disposal by foot particularly was very poor
b) even though we won the clearances, we didn't really do much with them, in contrast to Adelaide, who won fewer clearances but really caused damage when they did - hence the runs of quick goals
c) our midfield was unable to apply the same defensive pressure to their opponents as was applied to them
d) our forward structure was poor with no consistent target to take marks and kick goals.
These 4 reasons, IMO, are caused by the midfield players and to a lesser degree the forwards. So I have applied my votes accordingly and not gone for the traditional approach of giving all the votes to midfield players and those who do well on the statistics sheet. I'm really going off stats as an indicator of how well a footy team is going.
Staker, Collica and Read did their jobs. I'm sure that Cousins, Judd, Kerr and Chick at least are playing with injuries that is preventing them from playing their normal games.
Everyone tried hard, which was good to see.

1. Kerr
5. Michael Braun - another BOG Eagle for Brauny. He never stops trying and always puts his body on the line
4. Rowan Jones - has stepped up again in the absence of Embley
3. Phil Matera - his goals were invaluable, played on a quality player in Hart
2. Callum Chambers - my "boy" is back!
1. Ben Cousins - another typical Ben effort against the odds.
I couldn't give votes to Kerr until he learns to kick to a target!
(I know I will probably be shot for suggesting this, but how about a trade of Kerr to the Hawks for Rawlings?? They need some pace in the midfield and we could do with a CHF who is ready now)

I was pretty disappointed after the game because I expected us to lift a lot more than that after the Saints game. After thinking about it a little we were up against a very good team. The thing that stood out the most for me was the AMAZING difference in skill level btw the teams.
5 - Brauny - really hard working effort - gutsy little fella.
4 - Jones - the usual hard working, tackling effort from Jonesy.
3 - Chambers ran hard and although he made some errors he was in everything. I would expect a few clangeres adjusting to the pace of AFL. Should have been recalled sooner.
2 - Matera - mopped up well and 4 goals is a very good effort. He lifted when required.
1 - Sierakowski - was good in the middle and down back - certainly tried hard and was hard in the contests
Others worth a mention were Staker, McDougall in parts, Hunter was even with Perrie and Collica tried hard, but I think he was on Johnc*ck.:(
The game was lost in the midfield. Disappointing efforts from Judd, and Chick today. Cousins was passable and Kerr lifted BUT he made 4-5 SHOCKING foot disposal errors! Wilson dropped too many marks and has no confidence in his kicking, Munro hardly got a run. IMO Lynch would have been a better option than Wilson as he could have played in defence also....
I'm finding this a really hard week to assign votes.
5. Braun. Has been our most consistant for weeks now.
4. Jones. Another strong performance.
3. Sierakowski. Impressive comeback from.
2. Matera. A little bit of a return to form this week.
1. Hunter. Good defensive work.
Unlucky: Wirrpunda and Collica
While it was good to see Chambers get the ball, his disposal was exceptionally bad; I'd doubt even half his kicks were effective. Similarly I agree with VoR on Kerr's game, but there were positive signs there. McDougall looked down, but with his lack of experience we shouldn't be expecting great things every week. More worrying is Judd and Chick, neither of who had any impact on the game; we need them firing. Staker looked good for the little time he was on the ground, could have done with more game time perhaps, while Selwood played an OK debut game (I personally would drop Chambers first). Kasey Green did not have a good game, while Wilson and Munro were virtually pointless and will be out again next week.
Kasey and Kane played less than half a game each.
I thought Chambers disposals were on the whole rather good.

And so you should be shot. Midfields win games and Kerr is a tough as nails, hard at it midfielder with a ton of potential who is already one of the very best young players in the game. Plus, have you not seen the continual improvement from McDougall and Staker? They are the future, trading one of our best midfielders for a guy like Rawlings is a huge step backwards IMO.
My votes....
5 - Braun - been awesome for a while now, except for a couple of bad turnovers in the last quarter.
4 - Matera - he kept us in it.
3 - Seira - great comeback game, continually provided a target up forward and was a roadblock in defence. Fantastic game.
2 - Kerr - had a few bad disposals but in general he was hard at it and played well.
1 - Chambers - got a ton of the ball but he always seemed to get it in mounds of space which makes you wonder where his opponent was? Still he played well in his first game of the season.

5. Braun - not for the number of touches he got, but for keeping Laddams (the in-form player at Adelaide) to 3 touches in the first half. If all our players could be half as accountable as Braun we may have had a chance.
4. Sierakowski - The only tall marking option we had around the ground. Stood up for us, and should keep his spot for next week.
3. Chambers - played for his career - an example, the smother he did on the boundary line - we should be that desperate all the time.
2. Phil Matera - Kicked four goals - did his job.
1. Jones - always tries his hardest.
Kerr was close, but 7 clangers just doesn't cut it for me.

I suspect the layoff is too long to get him AFL fit now, same may be the case with Milli !!!
ps I read Glass was out with the flu, now I read it was general soreness. I wish WCE would come clean on these issues.

From a Crows' perspective
5. Braun - Easily your best midfielder. Never gave up & hard at it.
4. Jones - Blanketed the Birdman.
3. Hunter - Excellent game on the in form Sarge.
2. Matera - Your only decent forward. Why Ayres didn't shift Edwards on to him is a mystery.
1. Sierakowski - Tried hard all day.
IMO, both Chambers & Kerr burnt the ball too much to get votes. Bassett I reckon has helped end Porno's career. Better persisting with Haynes, McDougall & Staker who are the future.
5. Braun - fixed up Ladhams in the 1st half and got pleanty of the ball as well and went on to play well in the second half. Disciplined and allways closes down his opponent first.
4. Jones - had a good game on Burton and also a disciplined player.
3. Kerr - came back to better form and showed some desperation he is known for.
2. Hunter - desperate and hard working for most of the game.
1. Chambers - added some spark & run for most of the game.
All is not lost, the boys will bounce back.

I think you'll find that Worsfold is generally quite open and honest about players and injuries. Its more than likely that the people writing the lists/articles are speculating or not getting things straight from the horses mouth.

Explain to me why?
He might have been well held on the day, but his stats are still respectable compared to the rest of the team.
Cousins - 19 possessions, 9 clearances, 1 goal and more importantly no clangers (usually has 4 or 5) - not at his best, but got enough of the ball to be our best. Compare Cousins stats to McLeod, Ricciuto & Edwards, and I'll think you'll find he did OK.
Judd - didn't rack up many of possessions (13), but 10 tackles and 5 clearances shows he's trying despite being closely checked.

IMO, Judd had next to no influence in the game. Shirley did a great job of shutting him down & got more of the ball. No where near your top-5 IMO & didn't work hard enough to shake his tag.
I have no problems with Cousins (lower) in the top-5, as he still fought hard to try & lift your side. However, IMO there were many other players who deserve to be the best Eagles player in front of him. He wasn't nearly as damaging as usual because under the pressure of Stinger was forced to handball rather than kick more often than not.

You've reminded me of a reason I didn't give Chambers votes. Yes, that smother was excellent, but the fact of the matter was that it only made up for the fact he completely backed out of the contest 10 seconds earlier and let the Crows player win the ball. That smother was the very *least* he needed to do after he put in an insipid effort to get the ball himself.
I thought Chambers' game was promising, but he was not accountable enough and his disposal was atrocious. If we can get a reasonable trade at the end of the year for Callum, I think we should take it.

Yup, my thoughts exactly. Didn't go hard enough at the ball when he needed to first up.
My thoughts on the game were very similar to Big Kane's first post up there. I thought Cousins, Kerr and Judd tried extremely hard, but there were players who had a greater influence on our ability to get within 24 points of a good team - classic example being Hunter, who is doing a ridiculously good job on taller stronger players every week. Surely the key is whether a player does his bit for the team, not how many possessions he has? I'd be interested to know how many of those Cuz clearances came in the last quarter - I reckon at least half.
If Calllum should not have received votes due to poor disposal, then Kerr should not have either as his disposal was worse - and he is consistenly poor with his disposal week in and week out.
