View Full Version : Positives Out Of Crows Game

Positive that:

- That was Willos last game
- This is Seiras last year
- Phil Matera is not a leading Full Forward
- Brent Staker and Andrew McDougall have an exciting future
- Judd and Chick must be carrying injuries
- Braun, Kerr, Hunter and Jones have huge hearts
- Munro is not going to make it
- They should keep Haynes at FF and not look for excuses to keep him on the bench
- McDougall must spend more time on the field. The only way to get experience

I thought that they were down on confiidence today. Even the match committee had no confidence in the list by picking Willo and Seira ahead of a younger player like Lynch. But I must give credit to Seira for a great effort. But it will be hard for him to back up.

Bit of a rant. But I am not too disappointed with the game because we were well and trully undermanned and just need some luck to fininsh the season strong.

Lastly, dont take too much Docker nonsense this week. Just tell them to wait to R22.

I suspect Sierakowski will get another game. Not sure about Wilson. Just because they don't play up to their highest standards doesn't mean Judd and Chick are carrying injuries although I never saw Judd accelerate as he usually does.

If Wilson gets another game, there is something seriously wrong.

Actually I thought there were a lot of positives from today's game. But don't take my word for it - listen to Woosha's after-match press conference (courtesy Eagles Official AFL site):

".......but today we fought on pretty hard against Adelaide – we weren’t good enough in the end, but I think our endeavour was good enough, but we let ourselves down in certain areas.

“I think our use of the footy going forward was pretty poor – there were times when we had it and we had players open, and just kicked to bad areas.

“No doubt Adelaide defended well, but we missed a lot of opportunities just through poor skill, really.”

I think Staker deserves a lot more time on the ground - he really goes for the ball well.

I was disappointed in McDougall's game today - he doesn't go hard enough at the football. Hopefully it was just because of injury today, but he really needs to push a bit harder.

Staker, Selwood, Doogs even Sampi. We're talking about kids with only a handful of games under their belts. There is no way amy club wins flags with so many young inexperienced players in the team. We're suffering from injuries, Port Mauled and we haven't recovered. If we get players back by round 21 we'll get at least one home final and will have progressed this year beyond mosts expectations.

Our defensive spine has been 1 Milli, 2 Carrol, 3 Glass. All three were out today. We have to have our best players fit to play top footy. A couple out we can handle but a dozen with four or more others playing and carrying injuries is impossible.

I agree about staker. This guy has good hand and foot skills and takes a good mark too. Great investment.

ps Is Humm injured too?

Agree, Wilson is now done with the club.
Agree, probably Seira's last year but he still played really well.
Agree, Matera is not a leading FF but he still gave Hart a bath and kicked 4....the best small forward in the comp by a long way.
Agree, both Staker and Doogs look to be very good prospects. Doogs looked a little timid today, perhaps because of injury but he still tok some good marks and is really coming along. Staker is White reborn, he looks fantastic.
Chick was down today, not sure if he is carrying an injury. Judd has just had a couple of bad games, maybe carrying an injury but who really knows?
Agree again. Kerr really bounced back from his poor game last week, well his poor first half last week. Braun has been great the last month or so and you expect nothing less from Brauny, HuntAAA and Jonesy.
Agree, Munro will be delisted.
Agree again, Haynes is an out an out FF. He leads extremely well and takes a good mark. He deserves to be our FF and I hope Whoosha plays him their for the rest of the season.
Doogs must play out full games, he is getting better week by week. Gaspar is in trouble :D

Personally I thought it was a great effort by a seriously undermanned, young team (I sound like Connolly;) against a hard, experienced, almost full strength team who are second on the ladder. Compare Adelaide's midfield (all Premiership players in their late twenties Bickley,Ricciuto,Goodwin,McLeod) with our youngsters. Adelaide drafted Carey and Burns because they are aware that their window of opportunity for another Pemiership is closing due to their aging list. I thought, deepdown, that we would be smashed.

Out of the team were: Gardiner, Fletcher, Embley, Gaspar, Banfield, Sampi, McIntosh, Glass and Wooden. I challenge ANYTEAM to perform at their best without comparable players.

One thing I like about Adelaide is that they are not a bunch of thugs, unlike their feral neighbours. I can honestly say that there is only one player on their list that I cannot stand - Rotten Ronnie of the waving finger!

If we cannot win the title this year, then of the others I would prefer it to go to Adelaide.

(Their coach is also not a whining sook, unlike the other Adelaide team)

You have a very vaild point, but I would cut that list down to Gardiner, Fletcher, Embley and Glass.

Gaspar is no sure thing.
McIntosh is gone.
Banfield, Wooden, and to a lesser degree Sampi are replaceable (at this stage in his career).

If any team were without players with the calibre of the first 4 I mentioned, they would struggle.

Sampi was dropped, wasn't he? I am pretty sure he played for South Freo yesterday.

Fair call about Adelaide, on the way home, I was thinking 'wow, they're nothing like Port, are they?' It was a good, hard fair game, I don't think there was any nastiness at all, except for the requisite Jako/Carey biffo..(and had they NOT had anything to say to each other, i would have felt rather let down.) Liked the way they played, particularly Smart, who is an absolute genius.

I'm not jumping up and down and hitting the panic button this week. We played decently, just lacked the firepower to put the boot in. I can see us winning next week, which frankly I couldn't after that debacle against the saints. Add in Gardiner and Fletch again, and we'll be odds on to win the next two, and then its the derby, which I really really really hope we have embers back for

, found some positives (most notably Chambers, and the continued development of Staker)

This was a very big mistake from the coaching staff. Sampi is a mercurial player and usually tackles hard to keep the ball in the fwd line. I originally thought he was injured, but to hear that he played for South Freo was disgraceful.

He has had a couple of bad games in a row but so have Judd, Kerr, Matera, etc, etc. Dropping him for a crucial game where we need a SKILLFUL player was an absoulte CLANGER from the coaching staff:mad:

To add insult to injury his replacement Munro (who isnt a bad player, just not in Sampmeister's class) played about 1/4 at the most??

Just my thoughts:confused:

WHAT THE??

Even though probably only the first three names are our top liners those others were in our best 22 at the beginning of the year.

But the other point to make about this is look at who is replacing them. Three guys playing their first games for the team for the year (of them one making his debut - Selwood), another playing his 3rd game, McDougall has played about 9-10 games etc. They are young, inexperienced players. And no matter how much potential they have they are raw right now.

The team after making so many forced changes over the last month is going to struggle to mesh and perform at anywhere near the same level. And so that is why I thought they plugged away and weren't disgraced against the Crows.

My real concern now is the derby. unless we get fit and fast we could be, dare I say it, up against it.

No, back to reality - banish those evil, insane thoughts away!! :D

the biggest positive for me was that for the first time in a while we were hart at the footy. we played hard and actually tackled and scragged the opposition when not in posession.

on the sampi issue i have no doubt that he will be back. we propbably deserved to be dropped as he has been getting lazy in the last couple of weeks.

Dropping Sampi for Munro was a colossal mistake.

He has played one good game of AFL (in the final vs Essendon). What else has "Mike" done to warrant an extension to his contract?

Thats true, Fatty Munro hasn't done much with his opportunities. He was a late pick after all (round 4 I think) so its not surprising he didn't quite come up to standards. The chances were always pretty slim... (pun not intended)

I'm not - he was consistently bad for the last 3 weeks. Wake up call was needed.
