Described by his first sponsor as a slashing, nimble, hulking athletic forward/ruckman, Lycett will form one half of the decade's finest ruck duo.
It gives me great pleasure to sponsor Sly, Lychee, Nits in his first season.
A slider in both drafts, the word on the street is that he is wowing all with his strong mark down at pre-season training.
Height: 202cm
Weight: 98kg
DOB: 26/09/92
Club: Port Adelaide Magpies (SA)
Kevin Sheehan says: Strong-marking ruckman who is agile and super competitive. Team-oriented player who impressed with South Australia in the under-18 championships.

In his own words
What type of player are you?
Tall, agile and competitive.
Which AFL player do you feel you resemble, and why?
Matthew Kreuzer. He knows where to go around the ground and also go forward and be dangerous.
What are your strengths as a footballer?
Competitiveness, will do anything for the benefit of the team, have a willingness to get better as a person and player, and I want to learn.
What parts of your game would you like to improve?
Goalkicking, my hands in the ruck to palm the ball down to the midfielders, and getting more marks around the ground.
Which AFL team do you support and how did you come to barrack for them?
Brisbane Lions. When I was younger, I used to go for them because they used to win all the time, but now because I admire all of the players. A big influence was my favourite player, Jonathan Brown.
Who has been the biggest influence on your career so far, and why?
Corey Siemers, because I’m doing everything for him, but also my dad. He’s always calling me up checking to see how my footy’s going, because he knows it’s my dream to play in the AFL.

Whilst Scott Lycett doesn't care about 'gramar', he will be focusing on taking his older WAFL opponents to school in a few short months.
Really hoping he can kick some bags.

is it possible he could develop seaby-itis until cox retires? (being a good ruckman, but always have two rucks selected in front of him)

Given Gardiner's injury and off field problems Seaby ended up having more of a crack at the second ruck role as a result, he just wasn't able to solidify himself as a make shift forward/second ruck

In old new news from the main board, he will be playing for Peel. Hopefully as a forward and second ruck. I don't know much about Peel's lineup, would love some info from anyone in the know.

Apparently struggled in league debut. He'll bounce back, a bag is right round the corner.
You're ma bhoy Lycee.

How is Scott going?
Being from Port in SANFL and we lacked any ruck supoort to Brogan (and still do) a lot of us were hoping the Power picked Scott.
Thanks.

Another shining light was Scott Lycett who took two outstanding pack marks in the first quarter and nailed two goals from long distances to justify his position on the West Coast list.

A 202 cm teenager who takes pack marks has to be a good thing.
Haven't seen him play yet but he sounds like he's improving with every round.

Very excited about this chap.
Very good mover of the ball, good set of hands.
Will be very interesting to see where he's at in another 2 years time.

With Cox and NicNat we have two ruckmen who are anything but one dimensional.
When Cox retires and Lycett plays tandem with NicNat we again will have two ruckmen who will complement each other, as Lycett will be a quality option up forward.
When we drafted Lycett I compared him to Brendan Lade, lets hope he can live up to that billing.
Lycett under the tutelage of Cox will fast track his development no end.

Lycett, who has been released from the goal square to go onto the ball in recent weeks, is surely one of the brightest 18-year-olds on the national scene.
Born on the day in 1992 that West Coast won their first flag, the 202cm Lycett has a monstrous leap, a kick to match senior teammate Quinten Lynch and a head cool enough to drift back in the hectic final minutes of the game to take a telling goal-square pack mark which stymied a desperate Perth surge.
And Ebert was even more impressive.

Will be interesting to see how well Cox holds up in the next two seasons.
Because once we give this boy a few preseasons he will dominate the WAFL and demand selection. Can anyone see us playing the odd game with three 200cm players in the coming two seasons?

Probably not, we would need the likes of Gartlett and Betts around them, the type of player our list is shortest of.
Saying that, I don't really consider NicNat a tall, with his speed and ability below the knees he can operate as smalls do, so he is a freak in that regard. He just needs to develop his reading of the play, in particular his ability to play as a forward and then he becomes very, very dangerous.
So perhaps in two years time if Cox is still in good form, and Lycett continues to improve at the rate he has shown so far this year we may be forced to. But we still need quality smalls around them, of the crumbing type.
Talk about a pump up in the West. Was he that good?

I think he was good. Bearing in mind that he left the ground 2-3 times after taking some beatings from his own players and the opposition, got back out there and continued to go after the ball, I was impressed. :)

Really glad to hear he's putting together some great performances. After a couple of big preseasons he is going to dominate the AFL with NicNat.
Hopefully he can keep it going, and kick a few bags.
Haven't been able to watch much at all of him not being in Perth, I'll have to keep more of an eye on when Peel games are to be on iview. Actually, I'll check now. I couldn't find any WAFL games on the site.

Moves well for a big bloke. Nice goal. In a few years time once Lynch and Cox are gone this kid will step up to be our next FF/Ruckman. :thumbsu:

We seem to have done quite well, got Stevens when earlier in that year he was compared to Martin, got Darling late when he was talked up as a certain top 3 pick the year before, than got Lycett when apparently Port were keen on taking him with their first pick. Scooter and Shuey were both picked up after everyone already had a pick IIRC

I have had a quick look at Scott's stats for the year for Peel, and did some averages.
Matches: 17
Disposals: 11
Tackles: 2.2
Marks: 4.7
Goals: 1.0
Hitouts: 11
That to go with a 2 goal, 11 disposal performance in the AFL.
Pretty solid for a teenage ruckman. Lots of marks and generally hits the scoreboard.
Looking at the Dockers' problem of no promising young KPF, they really should have picked Lycett instead of Pitt. I can't wait to see his improvement over the next year or two.

They overlooked both Darling and Lycett in favour of him and we're reaping the benefits as Pitt is looking very ordinary thus far

They'll just go for another mature-ager from the VFL or something to address their KPP shortcomings. They don't seem to want to develop an 18 year old KPP from the national draft.
They've done really well with them so far, but they have to pick a dud mature-ager at some stage... right?

Is Lycett more ruckman than forward? I only saw his AFL game and he did pretty well in the forward line, but wondering if he can be a Kennedy/Lynch/Darling or if its more like a "resting ruckman" in the forward line except we asked him to rest up there all game.
