View Full Version : Movie Unstoppable
Has anyone else watched this?
Seen it today and quite enjoyed it. Love Denzel and having dealt with Locomotives before made the move quite enjoyable.

I posted this on another thread.
It was quite watchable but I came out of the cinema thinking that it was a bit of a nothing movie and there was nothing special about it that seperates it from the umpteen other movies that have been made about runaway trains(of which Runaway Train with John Voight and Rebecca de Mornay is by far the best).
6/10
Who else was dissapointed when they made that curve ????
Was entertaining but very forgettable.

Is it filmed and edited like that other Denzel/Tony Scott collaboration Man On Fire?
If so, i'll be taking a pass.

I've only seen the trailers for this, but after hearing the basic plot something bothers me.
If the train is going so fast, and the cargo is dangerous, then why not disconnect the train from the carriages and let the carriages come to a halt?

yeah color wise i knew it was a tony scott film, if you're already half negged out by it before you start, then i wouldn't even try
this film only works if you're in the right head space and don't give a shit

The thing is I love the look of his late 80s, early 90s, Simpson/Bruckheimer, Joel Silver movies....Top Gun, Days Of Thunder, The Last Boy Scout etc
Man On Fire on the other hand...it was was nauseating. Story completely destroyed by bizzare music video style editing.

Basic summary to that question.
Unmanned train... brakes not connected because the lazy guys were only meant to be moving it off the line at the stockyards...had to jump out and change the line, fell and couldn't catch train again, throttle vibrated into full speed

I enjoyed it a lot more than i expected, but yeah it wasn't very memorable for any particular reason.
The sort of movie I'll probably watch if it's on TV or screening on a plane. Not something I'd go out of my way to see, much less pay $15 to watch in the cinema.

Just looking at the trailers and billboard ad, one would suspect this to be an out and out disposable Denzel vehicle, and nothing more.
denzel did a interview on either ACA or Today tonight he sounded like the biggest douche.
Leila did strike one as an average interviewer though, not possessing the skill to bounce off his one word answers and moving on to the next topic. Having said that, he is known for being an interviewer's nightmare, often intellectualizing the questions, coming across as moviedom's Billy Corgan.
I really liked this movie and there is some ripping scenes. A good action movie that entertains
Love Denzel but will pass on this, maybe rent it on DVD.

**Spoilers**
As these sorts of movies so often are this was both frustrating and predictable, but still entertaining enough.
My main issue is that like so many other movies where something has to be done to prevent a disaster the operations implemented are so often half arsed, badly thought through or just the wrong one.
A perfect example in this film is the helicopter landing attempt. Now I'm all for putting someone on top of a speeding train (it would have been one of my later options, but was one I came up with before the movie presented it to me), but is that really the most feasible plan A option. In this scenario there were two engines attempting to block the train from going to fast so they could lower the marine ontop of the train. Wouldn't you also place someone at the back of the two engines to jump across, much like what happened at the end of the movie. It would be dangerous, but not as dangerous as the helicopter option.
The best option was to do what Denzel did in running along the train from it's tail, even if that failed. It was the logical thing to try first.
The people who set up the derailing things were idiots also. With something that big why wouldn't you take full advantage of using it's own power to help with the derailment. Placing the derailers on the left hand track a considerable distance after a right hand bend was stupid. They should have been put on the inside track of the sharpest bend they could find that didn't line up any buildings. This would ideally kick up the train onto the wheels on the outside track and force it to tip, much like it almost did towards the end. Instead it when it hit them it had either lost all that sideways froce from the corner already or had even more force on the side making it harder to kick up. (Did anyone else imagine the derailer as a massive ramp?).
But I probably shouldn't be too critical of a film that I don't think takes itself too seriously.

a true cinematic masterpiece of marvellous camerawork, directing and acting. If the academy awards had any sense they would award this film the best picture and stop doing the academy awards because no other film will come close to matching the sheer perfection of unstoppable.
