It's been fun seeing everyone's disdain for the popular in the 'Movies everybody loves except for you' thread.

Now bring me your stinkers, your shockers, your wastes of DVDs. Movies that you couldn't pay other people to watch but you can't help enjoy.

Wild Wild West. I know, it makes no sense and is awful.

3 Ninjas: High Noon At Mega Mountain

I don't care if it's one of the bottom 30 movies of all time at IMDB, I loved this schlocky crap as a kid. Kids doing martial arts, Hulk Hogan in a hairpiece - not sure if it would stand up well these days but I remember it fondly.

For some reason the satire genre does not seem to rate well in Australia, and I nominate the following black comedies from America. I love them, but nobody else seems to:

Greedy (1994)
Pleasantville (1998)
Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999)
Shallow Hal (2001)
Duplex (2003)
Envy (2004)
American Dreamz (2006)
The Invention of Lying (2009)

Truman show. Thought it was absolutely brilliant (though not a comedy it was marketed as).

Butterfly Effect. (director's cut with in utero suicide ending) Made an average (at best) film fantastic.

I like films that make you think/question (even on superficial levels) - really enjoyed inception, until I had to explain it to pretty much anyone else who's seen it.

In particular love this line, a dad talking about his daughter potentially turning gay due to the main plot point of the film...

That's a great movie, I haven't spoken to anyone who didn't like that, Carrey's best role.

Leaving Las Vegas is a movie I didn't mind but everyone else I've spoken to hated it due to being too depressing - fair enough I guess.

A classic :thumbsu:

They Call me Bruce gets no love..."I don't geddit" :(

Hilarious movie :D

One of my favourite movies is Vanilla Sky (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0259711/) (2001). Most people have either never seen it/heard of it, or think it's garbage.

I've always thought Bullet (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0115781/) (1996) was one of Mickey Rourke's best roles, and an underrated film in general.

Speaking of Rourke, Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0102005/) (1991) was enjoyable trash :D

Always enjoyed Colour Me Kubrick (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0376543/) (2005) as well. I actually went and saw it at the cinema, and now have it on DVD. Nobody I know has even heard of it though.

Other unheralded favourites include Night Shift (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0084412/) (1982) and Mr. Mom (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085970/) (1983). Great little Michael Keaton comedies that most people have never heard of.

For those mentioning The Cable Guy, I was always under the impression that was widely appreciated as far as JIm Carrey comedies go, and am surprised to learn on here and on IMDB (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0115798/) that it's not highly rated within his body of work. Certainly seemed to get a lot of hype and love around the time it came out (1996) as far as I remember, anyway.

Star Trek: Nemesis.

I never got the hate for this one. I thought the villian was fascinating and well-played (and I LOVE the outfit!), the scenes flowed well and at a good pace, and I was really affected by the last few scenes. The only real low point was the pointless car chase scene.

Sure, there are a few holes which can be picked in the plot, but it's nothing compared to Wrath of Khan or XI.

Most of the movies i like but others "may not" are a little 50/50, some others do like them... others don't. This is true for some movie sequels (eg: Predator 2).

There are other instances where people from another generation (even maybe 5 years younger than myself), who didn't grow up with the likes of Back to the Future or other cult classics (eg: Total Recall) and think they are crap movies  :thumbsd:. Yet their taste of movies is based on liking the tripe we have seen over the last 5-10 years.

I love Megan Ward, she's a gorgeous and talented actress who unfortunately never made it past her "Charles Band" career in the early 90's and has been stuck doing B-grade films or guest starring on TV shows ever since. My favourite Megan Ward film fits perfectly into this thread, PCU Pit Party was my favourite teen flick from the 1990's but I don't anyone else who has even heard of the film.

Another film that I love that everybody either hates or hasn't heard of is Delusion, which was released in 1991 around the time when America's independent studios were making better quality and more interesting films than their Hollywood conterparts. For me, Delusion was the best of the lot, even better than Resevior Dogs.

A lot of it probably has to do with Data being killed off. What's your opinion on V? I think it's even more maligned then Nemesis but it's not that bad IMO.

V is just a horrible, horrible film, the sets are bad the costuming is crap, the story is just idiotic (the basic idea had promise but was executed so badly that any promise was ruined).

It is almost so bad that it is good, but it just doesn't quite get there so it is just bad bad.

Isn't there a general rule with with Star Trek films that the odd numbers ones are crap or at the very least that the even number films are the better ones.

I saw it without knowing much about it in advance, and didn't really mind it. I think having Shatner direct, and coming off such a success with IV, it had people looking at it in a pretty harsh light from the beginning.

The humour doesn't really work, and it's clearly limited by budget, but it never bored me. You're right, it's not that bad.

Actually, now that I think about it, I saw Bad Santa on the big screen at a bar here in Adelaide the weekend before Christmas, so somebody must like it. And rugby league player/coach Jason Taylor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jason_Taylor_%28rugby_league%29) mentioned Youngblood as his favourite movie on a copy of Big League Video that I picked up for $2 at Cheap as Chips, Glenelg around 1995. Ah, the random stuff you remember :p

Men At Work

PCU Pit Party was my favourite teen flick from the 1990's but I don't anyone else who has even heard of the film.

Love these movies, both favourites from my teens. Have both on DVD.

I would also like to add The Burbs with Tom Hanks.

The fifth element - When it came out everyone canned it, then I went to see it & loved the movie. I think it was more critically canned.

It's more critically panned than anything, most movie goers think it's a good film.

I'm not one of them though :p, i couldn't get into it.... i have a weird taste in movies, it's hard to explain but it has to have a good premise in order for me to show some interest. And the film's setting, i'm not much of a sci-fi person (yet i don't mind a few other films that blend sci-fi and action), thus i tend to stay away from most films set in space.

There are others as well, i have never been a fan of The Mummy films - a large part of it is due to where the film is set (not much of a desert location person),

Ha! Pecker taught me what a tea-bag was when I was a kid!

Love The Magician ... Scott Ryan is an absolute freak. I don't know many people who have seen it, but I've shown it to a few people and they've all liked it.

I actually think it'd be the best low-budget film I've seen that would be appreciated by the general Bigfooty audience.

Love that movie, the scene when they all start walking through the street to "Your the Voice" by John Farnham is hilarious to me.

Some of Prince of Thieves is good. Some of it is awful. It leaves me with very mixed feelings.

I really like Mystery Men... most people I talk to seem to hate it, maybe courtesy of that Smashmouth song.

Also, Bicentennial Man.

It's wildly inaccurate and the storyline makes little to no sense, to the point where the major relationship within the movie is, well, incestuous.

But I can watch it.
