View Full Version : OT: "The Block" Fiona and Adam rigged auction?

With the setup of the auctions it was open to a large amount of cheating. Each couple received the money above $590K plus the highest auction received an extra $100K. A couple could either agree to kickback the money for bids over a certain amount (eg $650K) to a genuine bidder or arrrange to buy the property themselves through a friend.
If the couple themselves arranged a bidder they could bid up to an infinite price and if they won the property would only cost them $490K.

Wouldn't they still need to have the money available for it? Say they bid $1m through a friend, they'd still need to be able to borrow it or have it available at settlement. Sure then channel 9 would give the money to them afterwards but they'd need to be able to come up with it upfront, which could be a little tricky. Anyway why is this here?

Would you 2 like a room to your selves to discuss this or should you just wait and talk about it on 'Living With'

Would you like to **** off? Just pointing out that the initial reasoning from Gregg, while obviously thinking outside the square, wasn't spot on. For what its worth i've never seen the show.

But thanks for you're valuable comments.

I don't know, that is why there is a "?" at the end of topic. However it was extremely open to cheating and with real estate agents involved, who are not known for honesty, it wouldn't surprize me in the least if this did not happen.

I don't know where you got your information from. According to the contract that the contestants signed and the rules, they were not allowed to arrange for friends or family to buy the property, nor where they allowed to buy the property themselves.

Yes, and nobody has ever broken a signed contract especially when they could get $100K with very little chance of being caught. Oh, to be so young and naive again.

But you are just speculating. You have no idea that it's true. Where is your proof that it's true? Or are just starting rumours for the sake of it? Do you have proof?
As far as I am concerned they just won $250,000 and that's it. And unless I have proof that any of the couples are being investigated for breaking the contract then that's what I believe. If it makes me naive not to think the worst of others for no reason at all, then sobeit!

umm...i think the point gregg was making is simply that the setup could be abused. Not that it has.

really should read his post more thoroughly Bee

Ummm, I know what he was saying. But why bother even making the suggestion in the first place? All it does is put doubt on the character of two people who seem to be decent quality people. If you are going to speculate like that, then why not suggest that The Mole is also set up, that Big Brother is set up, etc. Why not cast doubt on anyone who has won a competition that had the potential for cheating? That was my point.
If in the end any of the couples on The Block are proved to have breached contract or cheated in anyway, then they deserve all they get. But I can't see why anyone would want to tarnish the reputation of someone by suggesting that maybe, just maybe they are cheats.

i think the point was more directed at the potential for cheating, rather then at anyone in particular. He was pointing out a hole in the procedure, not saying that they had exploited it

edit: apart from the title, which i didnt read before, apologies.

Yep I agree, but every competition has the potential for cheating one way or the other. Not everyone cheats. Some people would and think nothing of it of course, but most would play by the rules.
