Go GWS!

Oh great. Thanks Eddie!
The Collingwood AFL club president used his breakfast radio show to taunt Greater Western Sydney Giants coach, Kevin Sheedy, by saying Sheedy's young players would soon tire of living in "the land of the falafel" and would easily be poached by Victorian clubs.

I've been doing the hard sell at work for months, dropping GWS in conversations, and then we get this comment. Been at work for an hour and I've had half a dozen people gibe me with variations of "those racist Victards can f*** off back home".
:-(
Mental note for the future, Eddie. We can't embrace on ethnicity (Polynesians) and belittle another. The west is a diverse place, and comments like that do not help.

I reckon it could work out OK. Everyone hates Eddie. People in Sydney more so. So won't they all love it when they can cheer on the Giants to a win against his team, and other 'victardian' teams?

This is a good point. Nothing like an "us and them" attitude to garner support. Could be a positive. :thumbsu:

People will get over it. It's not the first racist comment ever made and won't be the last. The only thing it will do in my opinion is make Western Sydney more determined to get a pendlebury, swan or thomas. Imo if you want to hurt him the most, go for Pendlebury.

No problem.
Helps generate that us against them mentality, plus it's yet another day of free publicity for GWS.

I wouldn't put it past Eddie and Kevin Sheedy to have cooked this little controversy up between them to get people talking about GWS.

The only gun they will get is Scully, GWS will turn out to be like the Brisbane Bears they will have no fans and after 5 or 6 they will be looking to merge or they will fold. Go after Pendulbury but your not getting him and you will see.

i get the feeling this is all building upto 2012 round 1 GWS hosting Collingwood, followed up by sydneys first derby in the next few weeks, throw in Gold Coast/K Hunt and thats a pretty good start to get people talking about the club

I think that would be a decent start.. But you know the AFL, thet like to milk things out.. They'll probably let the first GWS game (in melbourne) get lost amongst the fanfare of a new season, but announce their arrival on the scene in Round 2 with a big game at ANZ against the pies, then a couple of weeks later the first game at their other home ground, new game at manuka, and then the big Sydney Showdaws or whatever it's gunna be called..
But you know what would add some excitement and interest in the Giants' first game against the Pies? How about if the Giants poach one or two of the Pies' better playerS? That'll be a great way for it all to work out, don't you agree?
