Here is a very interesting article from The Advertiser about Aidan Parker. He sounds like a very good lad to have around footy club.
Parker willing to play without pay

ADELAIDE coach Gary Ayres may not have to look far in his pursuit for a ready-made defender to replace veteran Nigel Smart.
Crows rookie Aidan Parker has had an outstanding season in the SANFL with South Adelaide and is itching to be elevated to the senior list next season. In fact, the West Australian is so desperate to get his chance he would play the old-fashioned way – without payment.
"I'd love to get it," Parker said of a possible promotion. "With our list being so strong it's really going to be tough but I'll do anything – the coaching staff can have my next year's salary – so long as I'm on the list."
After establishing himself at Subiaco with two senior seasons in the WAFL, Parker has successfully negotiated his transition into the SANFL – playing every league game with the Panthers.
On Saturday against West Adelaide, Parker had the better of fellow Crow Ben Rutten while amassing 26 possessions, six marks and two tackles in a best-on-ground display.
His effort at centre half-back saw him selected as The Advertiser-West End Player of the Week.
"I started a little bit slowly but then worked my way into it," Parker, 20, said. "I didn't take as many contested marks as I normally have but overall I was happy with my game. I played on Benny Rutten and he's obviously a very good player out of the goalsquare."
Some sound advice from Crows recruiting manager James Fantasia has ensured Parker (193 cm, 90 kg) will continue to flourish as he has in 2003.
"At Subiaco they tried to make me be a defensive player out of full back," Parker said. "It's good to come out to centre half-back and be more attacking and `Fanta' said the one thing I do need to improve is to be more attacking. So I thought I would get more of the ball and go for my marks a lot more rather than always spoiling."
Parker also gives Adelaide and South credit for helping him settle in South Australia with ease but it has been the presence of a former team-mate – Port Magpie Craig Parry – which has also helped.
"Adelaide is quite similar to Perth and I love Adelaide now – it's where home is," Parker said. "Craig and I are very good mates. We've spent a lot of time together . . . it's been great to have him around the place."

Altruistic maybe? :p I know mate - I hate guys who make big deals out of simple tpyos too.
Besides... "Aidan Parker is a red" would be a chant close to your heart no? ;)

Aidan was just on 5AA and is a bit of a funny bloke. Has one of those personalities that gel the footy club toghether. A bit like Ryan Fitzgerald.
Sound like he is super keen to get a spot on the senior list at the end of the year. He just wants to finish off the year really strongly and give himself every chance.
I say promote the bloke.:D

"Her that knows better" also heard the 5aa interview & was very impressed with Aidans interview & made a point of if he can play as good as he conducts himself on live radio then the Crows should sign him up forthwith,
Never seen him play myself so i can only go on what views are posted on here,

I didn't hear the interview :( blah. didn't even know he was going to be on!
Parks is lovely, he'd be one of the nicest guys down the club, he's so easy to talk to!
He should be promoted purely on that, 'cause he can play :)

I heard the interview, and Parker does sound like an excellent type of bloke. On top of that he wants to play AFL for all the right reasons.
Parker, Smith and Bock are all 193 cms, all young defenders who turned 20 at the beginning of the year and all playing at league level for their SANFL sides. It makes them pretty easy to compare and there is no comparison.
Smith will never hold down a key post at AFL level - never. Not strong enough overhead. Bock hasn't come on as well as expected this year, although he is playing a bit better at the moment. Still looks a long way away from being an AFL player at the moment though.
Parker is the standout of these 3 by a long long way. He plays the tallest of the 3 and has dour defensive qualities to which he has been working on adding both run and rebound. Next year he'll be ready to have a crack at AFL.
He has to be upgraded to the main list. He's earned it.

macca23, of the 3 you mentioned he has had best season by far. He conducts himself pretty well in media and can play. If it was up to me (which thank god its not) he would be on the senior list next year.
I loved his answer when Cornesy asked him if it was true what he said in the advertiser that he would play for free. His response "I am on bugger all at the moment so it wouldn't make much difference". Sound like a top bloke that can also play a bit of footy but apparently he is not much of a batsman.:p

As someone who is normally out watching the Eagles when I'm not at a Crows game, I can tell you right now Bocky is coming along a LOT more than last season. Last season he was mucking up a lot of things and spent time in the Reserves, but he's been promoted early this year and really has settled in as a Running Half Back Flanker, and helping out Steven Hall in his twilight years.
And another from the Eagles who is going places is Tim Inkster, 5 goal quarter against South Adelaide a few weeks ago isn't a bad effort by 23 year old with only about 12 senior games under his belt.

Sounds like he is enjoying himself here which is always a good thing - a tip though - if he wants to be any good - change SANFL clubs quickly - try the mighty Eagles!! :D The home of Stevo, Biglands, Crowell, Skipworth, Bock, Hentschel, Shirley & Burton.

xx Crowell and Bock are duds. Skippy and Hentschel haven't made it. Shirley is only just starting to make it.
Compare that to Bickley, Smart, Goodwin, Torney, Clarke and Doughty and what the Eagles have given us pales in comparison. I'd say Aidan's at the right club. ;)

True can't deny that Smarty, Bicks, Goody, Horney, Clarkey are great players - but none of these guys have played for South in the past 6 years or so, only Doughty has and I don't think he has improved that much.

Crowell played many good games last year.
Marsh hasn't played any decent football since ... well, a bloody long time ago. He has had opportunities & stuffed them up. I still have nightmare of the big Eagles player (Carroll?) making him look like a complete goose. Marsh is your definition of a dud!

Totally agree - as I've said (seems like a zillion times now) from what I've seen of Bock thanks to FOX Footy and the ABC he looks like he could be a real asset to us given a decent chance.
Hell, if the club are willing to give the likes of Skippy and Shirley chance after chance, why not Bock?
