Best of luck to Sam Gibson.

THE Box Hill Hawks will enter season 2011 with a new on-field leader after announcing Sam Gibson as captain.

The 24-year-old midfielder/forward has been with Box Hill since 2006, including a spell on Hawthorn’s rookie list, and finished last year as the team’s highest goal-kicker and runner-up best and fairest.

Gibson will replace departing captain Steve Kenna, who heads for Balwyn in the Eastern Football League.

The 2011 season figures to be one of change for the Hawks, with a coach, new captain and plenty of new faces joining the fold.

Gibson Muston, and Pattison.

Gibson began playing for Box Hill in 2006 after playing with the Oakleigh Chargers. He was a part of the 2006 Reserves Premiership and was then drafted to Hawthorn as a rookie. In 2009 he was released by Hawthorn and returned to Box Hill where he has played almost 100 games with the club. Coach Damian Carroll was glowing in his praise of the new skipper, "Gibbo has really impressed me with his strong leadership skills and his ability to relate to both the younger players and the more experience which is vital in the VFL. His form over the past few seasons has been first rate and he is ready to stamp himself as a big name within the VFL
