It's a category based game with a live draft (if that's what everyone wants) with no one getting the same player (unlike SC/DT)

The usuals will be in I assume. We need to get the rules set early this year.

It would probably good if someone went through last years thread and extracted the comments / suggestions.

The main issues last year were the FF and FA cats were destroying games and that people didn't stay for the full season which made trading impossible with some teams.

I like the keeper idea.

Gives you a chance to build a list. Not sure how it would work but it would reward talent spotting etc.

I haven't looked at the survey yet but I'd like a couple of cats changed that would throw a great dynamic on the comp.

1/ Drop % and bring in goal assists
This would deter some from holding all goal kickers (possibly) or forwards who are there just for possessions (such as daisy). TV would be the number one draft pick for this cat.

2/ Drop FF and bring in defensive 50 rebounds
This would make the draft deeper. I.e. you may not take griffin as he plays more midfield and is a possession getter and you may go for a scarlett who only gets 10 kicks but clears it 8 times (guessing on stats)

3/ Drop FA and bring in 50 entries.
This is pretty obvious I guess, it's similar in application to rebounds.

The other possible one is hardball gets.

And it would be interesting to pick a double stat captain. (with a vice) But this would have to be locked when the round starts.

That's the main thing, it creates some new angles on players.. and then when you head into a game against someone who's dominant in one or two categories it doesn't come down to a coin flip on the FF and FA categories.

So we'd be taking out FF, FA and introducing 4 new cats? Disposal efficiency, clangers, contested possessions and scoring assists?

I like the idea Means we need to give a lot more consideration to developing our squad.

Yeah from my attempt at making a league it looks like the cats are still the same which is a shame really.

either there wasnt much interest in feedback about expanding the cats or the turkeys just didnt listen to the peeps.

Just thought i'd pop by to announce that I have two guys who are definite ins for next year and will stay active. They are Fantasy Footy nuts, so there won't be any issues.

Tryin to talk my brother into it as well, so if everyone who has been active for the last two seasons back up again, that would give us 11 players (if my bro signs on).

Also just wanted to put the idea of making this a keeper league out there for future seasons.

The good work is done 100-200


After the draft it's all plain sailing and comes down to your ability to trade to any sucker that will accept that fevola trade.

To be invited into the competition it helps if your name is voss.

i think you summed it up well.

i would setup a league, but with 2 ultimate footy teams, supercoach and yahoo fantasy nba teams to look after not sure i will have the time to put in.

Also if you are anything like me and sometimes sleep through your alarm always fill in the first 200-300 of the auto draft list (is it still there?) so that you won't end up with a gold coast team if you miss the draft.

Oh yeah and pls if you setup the league don't change the draft day/time just because you got a bad nr in the draft. In any case I should get nr 1 as I live the furthest away from Melbourne ;)

Anyone can play, but there is one simple rule.

You must play the season.
It only takes 5 minutes each week (at the barest minimum) to make sure all the guys on field for your team are playing.

Over the past 2 years we have had problems with people finding they have a crap team and they lost interest.

This completely roots it for the rest of us.

I have been in the position of having a crap side. I know.
It is imperative you don't trade out all your great players once you are dusted. Or the comp is crap and becomes one sided (as happened last year)

Important tip for newbies.

Even if you will definitely be participating in the live draft I suggest you do the following.

Go into the preseason draft now and preselect a big bunch of players and try and sort them into some sort of order of preference.

Because if for some reason you don't make it online, or your internet goes down etc. those are the picks the system will default to.

It's also important to select the players you want removed.
i.e. You'd really hate to be given someone like a soloman with the 3rd pick of the draft :)

I just went and picked a bunch and it felt like I was scraping the barrel by the 100th pick :)

The poll is actually quite a good suggestion with of course the names who voted. Don't want ppl votes count who don't even have a team!

Even if you can be online for the draft its always a good thing to fill in the draft thing, just in case your internet connection gets lost or you have to get some coffee or something else.

I ended up throwing a team together for a public league which I randomly got added to. I'm not sure how many of these guys have played before. I did about 12 pre-selections and got all of them except for Sandilands who went before my first pick. Somehow though I've managed to get Selwood and Bartel, and also Kreuzer, Ottens and Tippett (all R/F's).

I wasn't going to play this season, way too much going on. Then, in a moment of weakness, I signed up and as I'd missed the boat on our league I jumped into a public league. I figure I may be able to take it not quite as seriously/spend as much time on it.

I got Varcoe as well :) Hopefully I can trade one of my R/F's for a gun defender (which is what I'm missing).

BTW whoopsman if you are going to let 18 players play then we need more players in our total team!!!

Why because a lot of teams like me have multi players from 1 afl team and when they get a BYE we can't use them in the ultimate footy!!
