With luck, it will be 3rd time lucky in the practice games in 2011 and we'll get up for a win and get a few supporters out west to the Whitten Oval.
Apologies to those affected by the public cancellation of the game against Coburg last week but it was beyond the clubs control due to lack of suitable venues to play the game. Moving on and focussing on this weeks game now...

I wish it was the other way around. 4pm is too early, I've gotta work. 6pm for the seniors would have been perfect.

I heard on the radio that Big Max would play. Think it might have been Clarko.

Would be great if Big Max gets up for 2 weeks in a row. His first time?
Even it he is still a bit sore, it will be a good learning curve for both him and the medicos to see what effects it has on him and how much he can take at a time. He did only play 40minutes last week so I wouldn't imagine the swelling would be as bad as after a full game - but it's still all about learning how to manage him so the more times he plays, the more data they'll have to work with.
Hope he has a good hit out.

See you all there, those that can make it.
An unfortunate time I agree, but them's the tricks.
Epic timing from work- my birthday off (in lieu of the actual date in January).
As per my post in the Hodge to play in the VFL thread on the main board, here's who has permission to play this weekend from the senior list..
Hawthorn - Max Bailey, Chance Bateman, Xavier Ellis, Taylor Duryea, Luke Hodge, Rick Ladson, Luke Lowden, Jarryd Morton, Tom Murphy, Brent Renouf, Brad Sewell.

Note that rookies don't need permission, so we could still see the likes of Bruest (who only played the game in WA) etc out there as well.

On Twitter @AFL_JenWitham has only mentioned Hodge, Bailey and Morton are playing, while specifically stating that Sewell and Bateman aren't playing.
Good luck BH, Hodgey and other HFC players.

How did Hodgey and Max look, Hank?
Hodge was only going half rat power. Did some nice things and nearly landed mark of the day despite some heckling in the crowd from Dasher.
I was very impressed with Max. Kicked a goal. He and Lowden rucked against Cordy from the Bulldogs and another nuffie. Thought our boys controlled the stoppages all day.
Max was put on ice so to speak midway into the Third quarter and Lowden pulled up stumps at 3/4 time. Both were working to specific amount of game time.
Pattison arrived late from work and took over ruck duties in the final quarter along with Fagan.

Both players played around a half each all up , ( both were heavily rotated) Both looked rusty at time and both blew up , Max came off about half way through the third and ice was applied to both knee's ....no probs and he was in high spirits...the ice was used just too stop the swelling...:thumbsu: Hodge did some nice things ...a good dummy here and there , kicked long with that laser foot of his , and marshalled the box hill boys well...
Again pulled up well , but i did notice at times him (testing ) the achill's out.....seemed happy enough..

Final Score was
BoxHill Williamstown
10.9.69 9.8.62
I think this is the final score.
A few things from the game that i saw.
HFC LISTED
Hodge: looking short of a gallop took a while to get going in the match a bit rusty perhaps. Certainly will be better for the run. Made some nice plays especially inside 50s left and right foot. Had the right foot going some booming kicks. Threw his body around as usual.
Tom Schneider: What can you say about this kid. WOW runs all day tackles harrasses gets his own ball rather stiff not to get elevated IMO. But then i think HFC were elevating Milne on a needs basis and he is a lot more versatile given his height.
Max Bailey: Nothing much to add from what the others said except to reiterate his field kicking especially his kicking for goal.
Luke Lowden: Building his fitness will need a few games i think to find his feet. Still needs a bit more beef.
Morton: Well do i say he played today. Well he did for the first 5 minutes or so. Came off right in front of me some sort of groin related issue
BOX HILL LISTED
Sam Gibson: Played his heart out as usual. In and around the ground provided options. Kicked a couple as well i think especially one from Hodge which was laser like onto his chest.
David Mirra: Awesome overhead today took a couple of great marks in defense and took some up forward as well. Had a great game today i thought
Jayden Hoegel: Exciting little player and was hoping he would tear it up today. Has good pace and is a ferocious tackler. Got his hands on the pill a few times but didn't finish in some instances.
Michael Thompson: Had another good game but was huffing and puffing through some of the last part of the quarters was being run around by some of the quicker willi players. Will improve when he builds his fitness.
Brad Neil: Had a great game got a lot of touches attacked the ball with intent and disposed of it well
Ryan Jackson: Had some good patches plays a similar role to gibson in that he provides options going forward and runs back to support.
Sorry if i missed anyone. It was a good effort by box hill today. The game was played with a lot of intensity. I can't wait for the start of the season.

I'm pretty sure that Box Hill Hawks won by 14pts.
A good performance by the Hawks this afternoon, impressed with big Max today. He moves so well, tackles and runs to contest.
If he can stand up for the season Max will be such a bonus for us.
Like Hodgey too, moved well but a bit rusty. Will be fine for 1st rd.
Lowden will be a good player for us,just needs to build up a bit more,Luke is taller than Max.
Another good positive was Will Langford playing with the Development squad, got a lot of the ball and has a good pair of hands. He can play.

Amazed to hear Lowden is taller than Max...hope he is eating everything he can find to try and get a couple of kilo's on that frame - he's an exciting prospect.

In sunny pleasant albeit slightly breezy conditions, Box Hill played Williamstown out in the wild west of Melbourne. My first time at the Whitten (Western) Oval and I must say it is a rather picturesque view across the city from the grandstand.
Box Hill took off with a flying start courtesy of a goal after a nice mark from Jackson after which the jovial crowd performed a rendition of the “moonwalk.”
Schneider was dangerous early, trapping the pill, getting in amongst the action and spearing in a pass which was duly marked by #63 for Box Hill before slotting it home. Soon after, the umpires were the full backs nemesis, calling a ball up after an illegal kickout but we could only muster a rushed behind before the ball was quickly rebounded.
Scores were tight at quarter time, with Box Hill trailing by a couple of points, fading late after being unable to stamp our ascendency on the game.
The second quarter saw us kicking into the wind. Big Max presented early taking a nice mark and splitting the sticks with a magnificent rotation of the air conveyance. #13 kicked an amazing goal which somehow eluded the Williamstown defence shortly before Hodge kicked from 80m according to Hank, 70m from Melbourne Air Traffic Control and 55m from your hawk eyed observer. Sadly the kick was inaccurate but it certainly had the boys in the stands heart in mouths for a while.
Not long after Cptn Hodge took a huge leap which was either going to result in a massive mark or a large hospital bill (sure he is Hawthorn captain but perhaps obtained his pilots license over the summer). Somehow neither eventuated, but that middle ground is still a pleasing result.
To lead by around 22pts at half time was a tremendous effort from predominantly a young Box Hill team.
Great to see the parents of a few Box Hill boys out and about this afternoon and was fortunate enough to have a brief chat to one of them- thanks for introducing yourself, sir.
Early in the third quarter Williamstown looked threatening, pegging back a goal early before a fortuitous decision saw Box Hill gain a steadier. After crossing himself more times than chief resident of the Vatican City, umpire Pope (for want of his real name) was busy early as Box Hill looked to hold up play where possible against the breeze. Taking a 22 point advantage still into the last, we looked set up for a win.
Big Max and “this is your captain speaking” Hodge, having been rotated for great parts of the day sat out the last quarter which was pre-planned. The media will have a field day with news of Max on ice but the headline is every bit sensationalist as it suggests. Max was comfy, laughing with coaching staff and fans pleased with his solid hit out.
Two goals managed in the last quarter from Box Hill was enough to hold off a fast finishing Williamstown, but notably we were playing to a rotations policy and had predetermined the game time that several players would play. The scoreboard would indicate a fadeout but it was important experience for the younger fellas.
A pleasing result considering Lowden shouldered the ruck for a quarter or so almost by himself and our boys certainly weren’t shy about committing themselves to the contested footy. Keep working on the skills, running hard and working as a team and we can achieve anything.
Thanks to the fellas who posted on proper reports as opposed to my general observations.
I’ll be in Adelaide watching Hawthorn play next week. If anyone can watch 26 March Box Hill v Bullants @ Princes Park, I’m sure those heading down the western highway (or over) would be much obliged!

Development squad lost by around 4 or 5 goals but certainly showed glimpses that they will be a force if they can maintain consistency. Impressesd overall despite the late blowout. Since it's a pracy game, we'll keep the individuals under wraps for now....come and see them in Rd 1 :D

Thx for report. Bit disappointed more underdone Hawks players didn't get more game time (Laddo, X-Man, Changa).
Sounds like Hodgey might have a slow start to the season. Good to hear about Large Max having more of a go. Hope he pulls up well and is set to play seniors in a few weeks.

Monky is a good lead and kicks straight most times. He doesn't have much pace and can get caught on the rebound chasing his opponent.
I am not sure about Taylor can't recall seeing the number 7 jumper out there (if he was wearing it). I do not know what he looks like.
