Well being a big british comedy fan, heres my 10, no real order, but Good Life and Thin Blue Line are the "lucky" ones. -

Men Behaving Badly (Probably my favourite)

The Good Life (Classic)

Thin Blue Line (HUGE Atkinson fan, this is 4th for me behind Blackadder, Not the 9 o'clock news and Bean - but still good)

Blackadder (Right up there this one, as I'm sure it will be for most)

The Office (Very very good)

League Of Gentlemen (Not for everyone but I'm a HUGE fan - seek out the live show guys - any fellow locals ??)

I'm Alan Partridge (excellent stuff, seek this one out, Steve Coogan at his very best.)

Fawlty Towers (Will win that poll, the all time great.)

Father Ted (Always good for a laugh)

One Foot in The Grave (the early episodes are sensational)

11 and beyond = Red Dwarf, Young Ones, Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em, pretty much all the ones featuring David Jason, Yes Minister and many many more :D

Is Mr Bean not considered a sitcom?

I put that in as my own nomination.

You know thats what I thought.

You don't get much more a "Situation Comedy" than Mr. Bean.

I guess they considered it too skit based perhaps ?

Yes Minister / Yes Prime Minister
Fawlty Towers
Blackadder
The Young Ones
Porridge
Bread
Red Dwarf
Bless This House
Coupling
Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps

These surveys always get won by Only Fools and Horses ... never took off here ... even in the ABC sense of taking off.

Two Ronnies
Mr Bean
Monty Python's Flying Circus
Dave Allen Show
Morecombe & Wise
Hale & Pace
The Goodies
Not the Nine O'Clock News

Another show I just remembered that should have been in my original 10

Rumpole of the Bailey

And special reverence should be reserved for a radio programme

Wasn't it Please Sir?

Mine in no particular order.

Dads Army-close to the best collection of comic actors in one show, the way they could take an object or situation and milk every possible laugh out of it is timeless.

Fawlty Towers-writing, direction and acting are close to perfect

Yes Minister/PMStarting to age but still very funny

The Office-My favorite show of the last 10 years

One foot in the grave-just when you think that ihings cant any worse they do.

Men Behaving Badly-Chemistry between Gary and Tony is great.

Blackadder-cant pick a favorite series although I'm not very keen on series one

Til death do us part-they just dont make characters like old Alf any more

Young Ones-took the **** out itself brilliantly

Spaced-Simon Pegg is a genius.

Red Dwarf-I know that makes 11 but I couldnt leave it out

Other comedies

Not the nine'o'clock news
Monty Python
Dave Allen
Two Ronnies
Benny Hill

Hell you've picked some tukeys.

My top 10:

Blackadder - Series 1 wasn't so good but the rest (especially 2) was as good as it gets.

Fawlty Towers - Great talents who knew what they were doing.

Only Fools and Horses - A very real and funny slice of 'Sarf London' life.

Ripping Yarns - HUGELY underated work by Michael Palin.

Porridge - Great Sit, great Com. A top cast headed by the great Ronnie Barker.

The Good Life - As above but it had Margo!

Yes Minister/ Prime Minister - So well written.

The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin - How good was Leonard Rossiter in this?

The Royle Family - Should not have worked, but did so well (you might soon see another one written by Craig Cash and based around a pub which is the best comedy made since then IMO)

Drop the Dead Donkey - If for nothing else the "Viking" episode ;D

Doctor in the House (starring Evans) is currently showing on Ch. 31 in Melbourne every Friday from 2:00pm.

Last week's episode was written by two members of the Goodies, Graeme Garden and Bill Oddie.

Poor Barry Evans. Acting jobs ran out so he worked as a taxi driver then he was murdered. A sad state of affairs.

Only Fools and Horses - by a country mile.

David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst are absolutely superb as Del and Rodders (not forgetting Uncle Albert and the wonderful "Grandad"). It's a shame the show never really took off here. Perhaps it was too "localised" for most Aussies. Having family from South London helps!

You Know it makes sense!

In no particular order

Blackadder - not series one, but it really hit its straps after that
Ever Decreasing Circles - Only saw the first dozen or so episodes, but Richard Briars extremely aggravating character turned this show from a painful to a can't miss experience
It aint half hot mum - The Perry-Croft writing team churned out a number of classics, all of hich are on the shortlist, this was their best.
Father Ted - Irishmen making fun of the church- couldn't fail really
Fawlty Towers - John Cleese at his peak
Hancocks Half Hour - While not as good as the radio series, Galton and Simpson combined fantastically with Tony Hancock (who incidentally died in a drunken stupor while filming a series for channel 7 in Sydney)
Red Dwarf - Extremely well scripted, fell apart a little when the series was ressurected without Rob Grant. Currently being made into a movie in Queensland
Spaced - A different approach, however quickly ran out of legs in the second series
Yes (Prime) Minister - archetypal British sitcom, just a classic
The Young Ones - Anrachy Rules! But why would this be included and not the Goodies?

Honourable mentions

Good Life
the New Statesman
The Office

Fully expect Only Fools and Horses or Steptoe and Son to win overall.

Can't believe that no-one else has mentioned "Rumpole of the Bailey"

after all, how many other shows have created a modern day catch-phrase, ---- "She who must be obeyed" .......????
