14th March 2001, 11:30
Date: 23.7.89
Venue: MCG
Opponent: North Melbourne
Time: 6 mins remaining; 1st quarter
McKenna: "David Strooper looking very lively...Ooh, Roos, beautiful use of the body; now, that's good play to get on with the game and kick it long...Matera! Punched away by Larkin but...terrific thinking by Paul Roos, Ross."
Glendinning: "Oh, and kicking from that area, out there, too er, Peter...saw Matera run into that open square; Matthew Larkin made up good ground there to punch that ball through."
McKenna: "John Northey, an interested spectator. Now who do they play next week, Drew?"
Drew: "They play Carlton actually!"
McKenna: "They play Carlton???"
Drew: "He's just a footy freak, John Northey."
McKenna: "Well, they're pretty keen, aren't they, the coaches! I thought he must be playing one of them next week. There's Michael Martyn - wouldn't you like to meet him on a dark night! Well...Matt Rendell has gone short...Osborne is the leader...gee, he's a great player that Martyn, he really has a go, the whole time...Richard Osborne...cleverly...back to Rendell...Rendell hooks it back in front of goal; here's danger for North Melbourne: LYNCH! A brilliant mark over the top of the pack!"
Glendinning: "What a great mark. We saw Michael Lynch...pardon me...Alastair Lynch, should I say, I saw Lynch take a similar mark a couple of times against St. Kilda a few weeks ago when he played on Lockett; he ran and jumped all over Lockett a few times; but what a great jump from there and got a good ride on the pack and to mark that on your chest at that height...excellent leap."
McKenna: "Well, we remember a great mark many years ago by Bosustow, a similar type one, over the top of the pack at Carlton and uh, that was similar...Alastair Lynch, he really is a spring-heeled Jack...going for Fitzroy's 5th goal of the game...he kicks...and I think he's put it through...he has!"
