What are your thoughts about the following suggestion:--
I reckon' one last fitting gesture for Jack Dyer would be to present Mark Coughlan with the NO# 17 guernsey at the completion of the match in the middle of the 'G' and ask him to wear it for the remainder of his career at the Tiges - he fits every category of the old fashioned Tiger spirit that we were 'respected' for.
You know he'll wear it with pride and do justice to the great man and it'll be great to see the number 17 guernsey running around on our next captains back if not in 2004, then definetely in 2005.

A good idea but it won't happen. Cogs should definetly be given the number 17 next year or when he steps into the captain's role.
The day should be reserved Jack's memory and i am sure even cogs would not want to steal some of the glory.
I think the number shoukld be kept in retirement until Campbell passes on the captraincy in two years to cogs and then the number 17 should automatically go to the captain whoever that is.
And then should always be the captain's number at Richmond.
This would be a great tribute to the nymber 17 at tigerland.

Disagree. Let Cogs make his own history in the #24 guernsey.

I'm with Mighty let him create his own history in #24. While giving him #17 would be a tremendous honor it also places a lot of pressure on him. Not saying that he doesn't deserve the guernsey as he is the only one on our list who I think would deserve to wear it. Just think of all the people who'd have to change the number 24's on their jumpers for 17's if he did swap :D

the no17 jumper should be reserved for the captain of the club so a repeat of giving the jumper to the likes of a paul hudson is never repeated again.
cheers!

Here's an interesting exercise -
Can anyone put together a list of a Tiger all star line up by numbers i.e the best player to don the 1 (not Rory)!!!, 2, 3 etc
what sort of lineup would we have ?

Like the idea of giving no.17 to either the Captain or the reigning Best and Fairest (Jack Dyer medallist). FWIW Coughlan a far chance to be both.
It's something different that no other club does but either way it gives the club and it's supporters (especially young ones) a constant weekly reminder of Captain Blood and his contributions.
Imagine being named the best and fairest and along with the usual trophy, accolades etc you are presented with Captain Bloods No.17 guernsey to wear the following season........awesome! The winning players normal number is then reserved/held for him so that he can have it back the following season. This system however would probably result in Coughlan spending more time in no.17 than no.24.

The "captains" guernsey #17. Now that would be special :)
