MUST beat Port tommorrow. Brisbane tonight will take 3rd spot, leaving us playing Port next week.
We must then beat Port again. Collingwood must beat Brisbane next week.
We would then get a home Prelim final as Collingwood would get the MCG on their own merit.
We would play possibly Brisbane or Sydney in prelim @ home and have a good chance to win.
Collingwood would play Port in the other prelim.
Bottom line, we must beat Port the next 2 weeks for this to happen.

Just thinking that if that above mentioned happens and further to that Port beats Collingwood and we win our prelim, we would meet Port in the GF.
If you include the preseason showdown that would be 5 times this year we would play Port....gotta be some record wouldn't it?

We must beat Port tomorrow as I cannot see us winning the flag if we don't finish in the top-4. Time for the players to show some character, as the destiny is in their own hands.

Why not? You have won two from 5th and 6th ;)
As much as I like your scenario PrideofSA, I would much prefer the prelim, if it was the Pies and Port to be at the G :D
If that scenario did ring true, and we had the SA derby as a GF, I would go, as I love watching the Port V Crows games. They are great matches!

As you know we may not have won the flag in 1998 if the current finals system, as we were given a 2nd chance.
Bottom line though is I can't see any team outside the top-4 winning the flag this year.

Well.....I was close :p
The final 8 system is a little harder now obviously, but then again, if other results fall your way you never know what can happen! The only factor is the dominance of the Interstate clubs, even though you guys can win in Melbourne well, it's not a matter of that anymore, now you have to be able to win in QLD, SYD and WA, which makes it almost impossible.

Possibly, possibly not.
Under the current system, if you finish 5th (or 6th) you need to win in the first week at home and win three away.
Whilst we did lose the first week final in 1998, it was a away to a tougher team. If we played at home to the 8th placed side (Essendon), we'd probably have won.
From there we'd just have to win three away games in a row, which is exactly what we did. :D

Sydney @ SCG? Check.
Brisbane @ Gabba? Nope.
Fremantle @ Subiaco? Almost.
West Coast @ Subiaco? Check.

True Dave, hence I used the term "may". All academic any way as they can't take the flag away from us & it was well deserved in the end! :D
I note that if we win, we'll not only ensure a showdown repeat but a western derby repeat as well.
So the best result for the team that loses tonight's derby will be us winning tomorrow.
Heck, the AFL should be barracking for us tomorrow... an SA showdown, WA derby, GF repeat and Essendon coming to Sydney for another 70k+ crowd... mouth watering stuff.

I hadn't picked that up but as usual you are right Dave. It certainly would make for monster crowds if we did win tomorrow.
In terms of quality of games I reckon that would have to be the best start to a final series ever.
Go Crows!!
