There is a big problem with our line-up at the moment and that is the CHF position. Over the last month or so Bolton has been playing there but has not played as well as we need him to and quite frankly is not a goal kicker. He plays his best footy across half-back. In the past we have had Scott Lucas at half forward who played quite well there and kicked 50+ in 2000 but now he is playing CHB extremely well (AA chance) and should stay there. It is because of this gap that he rely so much on Lloyd and to a certain extent Cupido for our goals. We have a lot of KPP on our list and in the senior side but barely any capable of playing CHF. Lloydy could do it but it would be silly to move him out of the position that he plays so well. One player that would fill the void very well is Jason Layco(k. I am a big rap for this kid and with him in the side our problems of having a backup ruckma is imediately solved! The only reason that he has not played yet is because he is only 18. I hope very much that he is given game time next year (ahead of henneman) to prove that he can fix the problems of a backup ruckman and CHF. He is a proven goal kicker in the TAC cup and in some games this year for Bendigo but has also done a lot of rucking. If sheeds feels that he wont be ready to steo up to the senior side next year then we need to go shopping. We have too many key position backmen at essendon and at least one of them need to be traded.
Jacobs
Lucas
Henneman
Bolton
Wellman
all play their best footy across half back but we simply can not have them there.
Decisions need to be made. It is unfair to expect Lloydy to single handedly get our goal tally. So long as we do this we will not have a solid record over the whole year. This is the case with this year. Our core group of players is as good as any in the competition but we lack the goal kicking power, especially from CHF.

A lot of people talk about Courtney Johns, but he could realistically be the solution for next season as well as Layco(k doing some of the rucking and been a third tall in the forward line. I think that if Layco(k is a decent ruckman then Hille will be moved up forward as he has a knack of getting into good positions. I agree that one of the half back flankers needs to go but two i would put above the others are Wellman and Lucas. If the rumour is true that Jacobs has rejected two contracts it may be a good time to trade him for a first round pick and possibly pick up another good young player and with the squad the way it is they would have plenty of time to develop

i agree that we should probably take a first round pick for jacobs if offered it, nothing less though. Courtney Johns will eventually be in our side and a good player at that. I feel that Layco(k is very mobile for a big man, so he would be good at CHF and Hille should stay the #1 ruck but the pair would work well together because they are both capable of playing the same roles (forward/ruck)

Laycock is a super talent , agile, big leap with long arms so its nearly impossible for defenders to punch the ball when he stretches for it. he is still 18 so he needs time.

Lucas was a centre half forward who could kick a lot of goals for us and now we know how much he meant to us up forward. Bolton is no centre-half forward. he is a 6'4 flanker. Id like to see fletch play there occasionally and have hunt at full back

that a pretty big call. im not sure about fletch's goal kicking ability and whether it would solve that problem. Also it would still leave us witjh no decent back up ruckman.

BTW nice comments on sport927 club corner the other night Marcus

I haven't seen Johns yet, but from the sounds of him he would fit in to CHF nicely, and quite frankly, it is the only position on the ground we have open for him. Lay(ock still needs a couple more seasons in the gym.

I wouldn't mind trading Jacobs if he is asking too much and we can get a decent trade for him. As good as Danny is, pace will always be a problem for him.

Johns is a better option at full forward. Also he does not solve the problem of a back up ruckman. Hopefully Layco(k will bulk up over summer and be ready to prove himself in the preseason.

Agree about Danny he is probably our best trading option. Should get a fair bit in return and can replace him easily.
