I actually won a box of 10 blank videos from the Coodabeen Champions back in 1985, by correctly answering this very same question. In true Coodabeens tradition, they called the videos "Famous Mickey Conlan Handpasses" & 7 of the tapes had been stolen before they gave me the prize.

Most of Mick's handballs were to himself.
My theory is that he was saving up for a Grand Final, where he was going to surprise everyone by hanpassing within range of the goals. If you have a look at a video of the 1989 Reserves Grand Final, he does exactly that & helps seal the Premiership for the Roys.
