Do any of you feel tha the reds are in the wrong competition ?.

For example, the amateurs are for the most part a southern/eastern suburban competition and there are very few teams from the northern suburbs. (especially now that Thomastown has left the V.A.F.A to join the D.V.F.L ).

And considering that the Diamond Valley second division contains teams such as Reservoir, Thomastown and Watsonia, which aren't that far away from Brunswick St, I think that such a move would re-affirm our place as a northern suburbs team.

Yep, a possible move has been canvassed, but the main goal at the moment is to improve, and become a stronger club, in the Ammos, first.

Do the reds have juniors? Because in the Diamond Valley their are plenty of sides in the northern suburbs. Coburg, Preston RSL and Reservoir to name a few. Mind you their are sides from Diamond creek Whittlesea and I think Kinglake. I am not sure if they have juniors or not because they no longer have a seniors side. So some of the sides that the Reds would play would be a fair way away. If they were to join they would go to division 3 and work their way up.

They do have juniors, well that's what I heard from Bill Atherton, but I only made that suggestion in relation to the seniors, ( Thomastown played in the same division as the Reds not that long ago and have made the switch to the D.V.F.L) as I posted to you earlier.

The juniors play I think in the Yarra leauge around Bulleen and Macleod, so I think that they should stay in that area because the travel distances are just the same.

I think the Redz are best off staying in the VAFA. The leauge is representative of the entirity of suburban football, rather than just one specific area (such as the DVFL).

If Fitzroy were to sponsor a team in the DVFL, I would have no problem with that. In fact, it's a good idea.

However, I think the Redz should stay in the VAFA. Not all Fitzroy supporters come from the DVFL region. Transferring to that league, might get off-side with people who then cannot get to all of the games in other areas.

I guess it would also have to be asked, whether or not they could still use Brunswick St. Oval as their home ground, if they changed leagues. After all, the DVFL is semi-professional, isn't it? I don't know if that would affect anything - but you never know, with these things.

And I guess that lends itself to another problem. You'd have to start paying some of your players.

As far as I know, the FFC don't make tonnes of profit each year. If this is the case, the team itself would therefore have to be of a calibre enough to be attractive to sponsors, etc.

Personally, I'd like to see the Redz stick in the VAFA, and try and climb up the divisions. The VAFA represents pretty much all of the suburban area, rather than just one region. Similarly, the teams in the league, and the leauge itself has quite a prestigious name - it seems right that the Roys name should also be there.

I think moving to the DVFL would be a backward step (in terms of prominence), in this regard. I know a few names in the VAFA, just from what you hear, but I doubt I'd know of too many from the DVFL (and that's not saying it's not a good league).

Just out of "safety's sake" as well. I'd hate to see the Roys get burnt in another saga resembling Coburg-Fitzroy. To me, the Redz are better of in the VAFA - well, a couple of divisions higher perhaps!

Well, that's just my say anyway!

You do have a point there, it could be wise to keep the Redz in "swiss neutral" territory accessable to all the diaspora of lions supporters, but the point I made was that Fitzroy was nay is a northern suburbs team and the Diamond Valley is not a bad competition.

Thomastown ( a former V.A.F.A team ) has made the switch into the D.V.F.L successfully and it could be an idea if the Reds feel stifled by the amateurs.

Just on that idea about a possible sponsorship between the F.F.C and a Diamond Valley club, the one that springs to mind is South Morang.

They wear maroon and blue, they are called the Lions and Kevin Murray was captain/coach there for a few years, so that could be a good allignment to make because all the signs are there.

Yeah, that's exactly the type of thing the club could look for.
