If Carlton were prepared to take their salaries (and they could easily) Carlton could pick up these two for draft picks 100 & 101 just for the cap relief they would provide.
Would you be interested?

Harford perhaps but I believe Mercuri is way too overpriced? We need some experience in the midfield but getting two with their salaries might rob us of some young 10 year player.
Wouldn't take either of them, they're finished. Mercuri in his day was the most damaging player I've ever seen play against us, apart from maybe Daicos.

mercuri not worth the money...and cmon guys we dont want midfielders that will stay and retire in a couple of years...we need long lasting midfielders that as dennis pagan said will go for 10 years

We do need to take some chances though and a cheap Harford in the preseason draft or a mutually beneficial trade might be worth a shot. He was once a pretty good player before losing his way. Has a few years left too I believe. How old is he?
Trying to think outside the square and realising that we have few senior players and may trade some of them as well.
Daniel Harford is 26 years old and has played 153 games.
Only played 5 senior games this year (out of favour with selectors), was in Box Hills best each game.
In his 5 senior games he had limited game time but averaged -
12 possessions, 5 marks, 4 tackles.
Certainly not the worst bloke going around, and definetely could play 3 or 4 more years of senior footy. Might be worth a low draft pick if willing to take the salary ($300,000?).
Hawks could even agree to pay a portion of his salary!
He's worth the minimum wages, and I would take him for free with last pick in the preseason draft. Hawks would have to pay the rest of his wages. In other words, don't want him unless he comes for as close to free as possible.
In the H/S today it said that Carlton would probably pick up Steve Lawrence. Pagan just loves picking up those troubled ones.
