Somewhere in my childhood memory lurks the name Bob Beecroft. Can anyone tell me how many games he played and how many goals he kicked?
I'd also appreciate an update on Harvey Merrigan.
Does anyone else have favorite players from that era apart from Wilson and Irwin?

bob beecroft signified the renaissance of fitzroy. at each stage in fitzroys years since i was old enough to attend in 1972, a goal kicking full forward always led to some success (excluding jamie shaw). beecroft, quinlan, osborne, lynch et al, gave a focal point and ensured a more offensive game from the roys.

Les Parrish what a legend! Much loved by Dees fans too, a true cult figure. Didn't he die of cancer too?

yes unfortunately he did pass away of cancer

he left me and some freinds with another funny memory before a match against richmond in the mcg change rooms...do they still let the crowds in before a game?

anyway parish was naked and signing autographs and jumping around near the fan fencing..at around 13 or 14 years of age me and my mates thought that was pretty hilarious as we were only little tackers and his person was about face height..not a good look..but funny to say the least when youre 13...we were like who is driving the bus here??

Bob Beecroft (96 games, 291 goals) came to Fitzroy as a ruckman. He came over from the West at the same time as Ron Alexander & Max George. Alexander made the ruck position his own & George failed at full forward, so Bobby became our full forward by default. He finally got to play in the ruck for the last quarter of his last game, (round 22, 1980 against Carlton) & absolutely dominated.

Harvey Merrigan (188 games, 18 goals), a great full back & a really nice guy.
