View Full Version : Best Fitzroy moment

I grew up in the country and lived interstate for a number of years, so I didn't get to see many games. My best radio memories were a couple of close wins against Hawthorn at the Junction Oval. As for a live game, I lived in Melbourne during 1991 and saw us beat Geelong and North at Princes Park. The victory against North is my greatest sporting memory (slightly ahead of the Allan Border - Jeff Thompson partnership in 1981)! Ross Lyon kicked the winning goal with seconds to spare.
I didn't see the game where Paul Roos kicked the winning goal against Collingwood (but I have the video) and I also rate the win against Essendon in 1994 at Princes Park. I travelled from Port Pirie for that one.

I was at the Roys v Pies match ... flamin' ripper!

Did you grow up in country Vic or country SA? Or somewhere else?

I grew up in Traralgon, where I first became a Fitzroy and Bernie fan (after he crossed from Footscray). I lived in country SA (Ceduna and Port Pirie) for three years from 1992-94.

The final when we came from behind to beat Essendon at VFL park was a pretty special moment.

I thought if werent so unlucky (deliberate my ass!) against Hawthorn the next week we would have won the premiership that year.

Giving the Crows a damned good thrashing at Footy Park in 95. Sensational last quarter........somewhat inebriated, Crows fans leaving with 10 minutes to go after giving me sh*t me all day without even so much as a glance in my direction, still have a smile to myself whenever I think of that night.

Yep the one against the Crows at Footy Park was good, made a blue and sat with the cheer squad but it was worth while whn the players
came down that end afyter the game a thanked everyone, the SA morons (Crows supporters) dissapeared very quickly and we had back up from the boys from Centrals and Dale Fleming, great in the rooms afterwards.
But the best ever would have to be 1986 V Essendon at Artic Park.

In some sad way when I look at it Freo in 1996, because it was a day for the diehards.

Also v Collingwood when Roos kicked the goal over his head.

Those Central lads were probably mates of mine, I was one of the guys standing up behind the seats for that match......I changed my scarf after the CDFC game and loads of Centrals and Norwood fans stayed on to cheers the Roys. Significantly raised the vocal support for us that night. Ah memories..........

The best moment was at the end of the 1986 Elimination Final.

The 1992 win against Collingwood was great too.

All the Roys wins were pretty good, really!

Especially 'all the wins' in the last couple of years http://www.bigfooty.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Freo was a beauty.

Even that reserves match against Richmond at the Western Oval, where Mellington kicked 9. The Tiges fans behind the goals were stirring almight heck out of him, and he just kept thrusting it up 'em.
