Now that the season is over, expect to see Gardiner to go in for surgery on his Posterior Cruciate Ligament. He's carried the injury since the game against Port.

Dont know the exact nature, just know that it's his PCL, and it requires surgery

In the Slimes (ultra reliable, i know) Gardiner said that his injury wasn't going to require surgery, just a lot of rest between now and Christmas?

Well that may be in the Slimes but it's also straight from the horses mouth if Gardy himself said it. Perhaps he was given that alternative, but youd think that any player with a need to go under the knife would get it done as early as possible in the offseason to minimise impact on preseason training and next year.
