View Full Version : Reds song bastardises the true toon!

We are the boys from Old Fitzroy,
We wear the colours, maroon and blue.
We will always fight for victory,
And we'll always see it through.
Win or lose, we do or die.
In defeat, we always try.
Fitzroy, Redders, the club we hold so dear.
Premiers, we'll be this year.

Is that a better example of how to tweak a song and not destroy it?

Question : Is even that small change a serious infringement?

I've got a mate called Redders who barracks for Geelong. He'll be loving it!

He's also a Roys member, and posts on BigFooty under the name of Red Rover. He's a bit of a nut, but that's ok. I can handle it.

I think it's fair enough though. After all, it's is the Redz, who we are 'applying' Fitzroy to in the first place - so it's a pretty nice gesture to use the theme song (albeit with an alteration), name, jumper etc.

At least the players sing it as well.

Although it's fair enough that the Coburg-Fitzroy players sang the Coburg song last year after a win, it would have been nice for them also to sing the Fitzroy song.

After all, were they winning just for Coburg??

I agree. It's fine by me. Just wanted to case the opinion of others.

Ask Bill Stephen if you can change the words he wrote it.

It sounded good on Saturday :D

This is the difference ... a couple of sublime changes are welcome, in my book, if they are relevant to the format of the club using it.

they wear the jumper with pride and they sing the song (albeit with a relevant change) VERY loud and VERY proud. To see 'em out on the ground after a win in the jumper singing the song is pure joy. That goes for the first's and seconds.
