In the upcoming round of the NEAFL, the Sydney Swans reserves are hosting the Greater Western Giants at Manuka Oval, Canberra on Saturday. This game is a curtain-raiser to the Sydney v Western Bulldogs AFL game (which starts at 1.10 pm) so the Swans v Giants game starts at 9:10 am.
And for anyone confused how we jumped from Rnd 3 to Rnd 6, well there was no Rnd 4 whatsoever (possibly due to Easter) and last weekend we had the bye.

This should prove a tough challenge for our team, as we got beaten badly by the Swans reserves in a practice match just before the start of the NEAFL season, and we're coming off a pretty big loss against the Northern Bullants from last week in the Foxtel cup..
At the same time, I believe we've improved since we last played the Swans reserves, and this weekend should not get beaten by more than 40 points, hopefully!

Another chance for some of our kids to play against some players with afl experience.
We will be better from the last game against these guys and Saturdays game, again it will be great for some of our boys to get experiance against mature players

Hopefully we can put in a decent result and make up for last week. If we're compertive and some of our kids play well, I'll be happy

Im thinking about heading down there to see how the boys go. Hopefully it wont be another high scoring loss like lastweekend.

It could well be.. But hopefully the experience in the NEAFL and Foxtel cup will have improved the players' resilience and they should be a lot more competitive.
I suppose the players that line up for the respective clubs will have a say in this as well - we don't know the ins and outs for the Giants or Swanettes yet..

I've written a preview for the game. It's mostly from a Swans POV.

Wet and windy?
Nope only 20 mins away from Manuka and it's about 16, very nice outside and no wind at all....however it would have been much much cooler at the start of the game

Seems like we can't string 2 halves together. 1st half last week and 2nd half this week. Tho very pleased with our 1st half this week!

Pretty happy with that half. Was at the match before Syd v Ess and would take a competitive low scoring match over a high scoring game. Defence is a lot more important to work on initially, just look at what's happening to the GC.

It ashame the swans run away with it in the second half but thats the difference between a talented group of kids and a side with some players with afl experience. Once again a great experience for our boys and they obviously can only get better.
Final score:
Swans 12.15 (87)
GWS 3.9 (27)
I don't really care how these blokes perform against teams like this yet, I assume the Swans had many players with AFL experiance and we were in it until half time, just need to string four quarters together and it'll be sweet

The Giants had fought out the forst half very well. Ultimately it's probably a good representation of where we are at.. We can play pretty well and be competitive at certain stages against these more experienced teams, but have trouble keeping it up for four quarters.
Our 16 and 17 year old players are still quite raw, but if they keep training hard and getting fitter will be in pretty good shape for next year.
Any way, the Greater Western Giants are playing the Lions Reserves at Cooparoo next weekend - should be another tough game for the boys!
