View Full Version : 2004 Player Manger
If you were the West Coast owner, How would you set-up our squad for next year (within reason)?
TEAM:

That 22 is good enough for the Flag.

- Lynch for Hadrill.
(Freo needs a strong forward unlike those pansies J.Lo and Croad)

BACK-UP:
Seaby, Selwood, Beek, Nicoski, Humm, Wooden, Banfield
and 6-7 draft picks...
Well, theres no point using players from other clubs just yet, so I will go like this... nice and tall

HB: Wirrapunda -- Gaspar -- Morrison

We would have been lucky to make the 8 if we didn't have Braun IMO. He is one of our gutsiest players - mad to trade him even for Hay.
We need a strong forward far more than Freo do.
Haddril for lynch?
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHHHAAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHHAHAAAHAHHAHAHAH AAHAAAHAHAHAHAHAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA.
AHAHHAHAA.

Throw in Adkins, Brent Tuckey and Greg Harding to sweeten the deal, and we may talk.

HF: Chick -- Gaspar -- Jones
C: Embley -- Cousins -- Judd
HB: Banfield -- Hay -- Green
B: Collica -- Glass -- Wirrpunda
R: Gardiner -- Kerr -- Fletcher

TRADES:
-1st Pick and Cheap tall bloke (salary cap problems -->) to Hawthorn for Hay
- Backup/Maybe Trade-Delist - Munro, Haynes, Johnson, Humm, Carroll, Hansen
- Retirement: Sierakowski, Wilson (I agonised over this one, sorry big fella).
FIRST TEAM BACK-UP (Would'nt Trade):
Morrison, Lynch, Wooden, Seaby, Selwood, Adkins (you really need to get in the gym), Staker, Chambers, Hunter (although i'd be very tempted to trade).
OTHER CHANGES FOR 2004:
Change the ****ing jumper you boardroom ****wits, home jumper sucks and away jumper does'nt cut it pal, the old one that says eagles on it has a history attached to it, not this new crap that comes up every two years. **** you.
Hunter needs brain surgery, transplant with monkey brennan?
A lot of the players need to get in the gym and bulk up, Cox needs more upper body strength lost count the number of times he was pushed over at a boundry throw-in.
And the MOST important thing the eagles need to do over summer is learn how to apply a strong tackle on an opponent while at the same time making sure he cant release the ball to a teammate. The tackle count needs to go up.

Going from the cattle we have in the paddockthis is the team I would like to see next year. Every year we seem to have at least 2 players who take the next step. Hopefully next year it will be our KPP in Hansen and Gaspar or either Lynch and Johnson. I remember we once had Fewster and Belotti running around the paddock and the next year they were gone so who knows. From what I saw today both Seaby and Beeck looked very promising and Dorotich thought we should fast track one and trade Cox. I liked Rudeforths game as well and Wooden should never have been dropped from the team that played Adelaide.
F:. Sampi--McDougall--Matera

Just on the original trades Haddrill for Lynch would never get accepted, and I doubt Braun + 1st rnd for Hay would get taken by Hawks.....maybe because they need to relieve salary cap pressure though.....
For now, I won't go with anything other than what we have on our list, and exclude trades.
so we'll assume Sierakowski, Wilson, McIntosh and Matera are gone from our 40 man playing squad. Nicoski is promoted off the rookie list, and we draft 3 guys.
Backs
B - Wirrpunda, Glass, Hunter
HB - Green, Gaspar/Lynch, Banfield
Bench - one of Gaspar, Lynch, Morrison, Collica or Read.
CHB is a major worry for next year at the moment. Gaspar would most likely start the season there but if he breaks down, we're gonna need Lynch to step up to the mark.
The only other Tall defenders would be Carroll, while Jakovich may be able to pinch hit down there at times, and perhaps Staker as well.
Other small guys down back will be Morrison, Collica, Read and Humm.
So that leaves the talent pretty thin, and the back up nothing spectular, and not much under 21 talent, so we definetaly have to draft defenders - welcome to the Eagles Beau Waters IMO.
Midfield
C - Judd, Cousins, Braun
Foll - Gardiner, Fletcher, Kerr
Bench - Cox, Chick
quite a talented group of 8 players, and add to that back up midfielders of Chambers and Wooden. Whilst youngsters Adam Selwood and Marc Nicoski coming through the ranks, and ruckman Mark Seaby sure to get at least a game next season.
Paul Johnson may also be given a shot to play in the ruck.
A very solid area of the field, with not much more need to comment on.
Forwards
HF - Embley, McDougall, Staker
F - Matera, Haynes, Sampi
Bench - Jones
once again a very talented group of guys, but this group is still quite young, with only Matera and Jones above 23 next year, so there is not only a good bunch of players, they are young and still developing.
Jakovich I don't think will be in our strongest 22 next year, but will still play in probably more than half of the games, with only the untested Ashley Hansen and Paul Johnson coming through the ranks in the tall forward stakes, although you'd expect to see Lynch and Gaspar down there at some point during the season.
There is also some good back up with the small forwards with Munro and Adkins on our list, who both have a fair bit of talent, just require to bulk up. If one of those two can really come along alot in 2004, that will make our forward region EXTREMELY STRONG IMO.
So as can clearly been seen we have a major imbalanec in the team, because all of our most likely best players in 2004 are in he midfield or up forward, but to further the problem, we don't really even have anything down back to look forward to in the future.
