The Fitzroy Reds have made it to the grand final and will be playing this Saturday at Central Reserve, Glen Waverley at 2pm.
The Reds defeated Peninsula Old Boys to make the grand final two weeks ago – so go into the game with a week’s rest. Peninsula OB went through the season without losing a game and lost their first final - minor premiers and a choke, sound familiar?! Peninsula defeated West Brunswick (for those who were at the MCG round 19 game early enough this was the team the Reds played) last weekend to make the grand final.
The Reds won their last premiership in 2001 and were elevated to D2. In only their second year of competition in D2 they will be elevated to D1 for making the grand final. This is an amazing effort. The Reds have four teams – Seniors, Reserves, Club VXIII and Under 19 – and all made finals this year. The Club XVIII in only their second year made the grand final, but unfortunately were beaten on the day. This is the first year of competition for the Under 19 team and they did a great job to make the finals.
So for those looking for some footy in Melbourne Saturday, head out to watch the Reds. You may not know the players but it will be a great opportunity to see a Fitzroy jumper in a grand final!
If you are a Reds supporter but can’t get to the game, try to get to Brunswick Street Oval from 5:30 Saturday night for the celebrations!
