View Full Version : Port in the Wet

Hi Guys

Given that it looks like Saturday nights game could be wet, I was wondering what Port Adelaides form has been like in the wet this year.

The precision style of play adopted by Port would suggest that the wet conditions wouldn't exactly suit.

Everyone knows about the problems Essendon seem to have in the wet, so it will be interesting to see who handles the conditions better (or worse).

Thoughts?

After watching training and the debacle on Sunday I'm not expecting to much precision. More bang and crash with the odd bit of skill. Refer to our games against West Coast and Brisbane for the best example.

Brendan Lade always goes well in the wet, as he knows how to take a chest mark.

All the more reason to include a player such as Poulton. If we are to win this game we need players like this who like to get in and get dirty. James is another great example.

Also Tredrea's ground skills and chest marks on the lead have always been a greater asset than any high flying options he provides. The only marking type player I fear may not be great in the wet is Chad .

Given Essendon often play in perfect conditions, you'd hope it would impact them more than us... but surely a change of tactics for both teams will take place. I wouldn't be surprised if Schofield, Stevens et al see more time on the wings waiting for the bruisers - Carr, Hardwick, Pickett, Wilson, even Big Game James -to get the ball out to them.

He's generally got pretty good hands no matter what the conditions.

I fear for Adam Kingsley, not because of the rain, just because.

"I reckon Pickett could be bought." :D

Is it just the chest pain, or has Kingers done well in the wet before?

It's the chest pain.

The wind is more of a worry to our style of game than the wet.

I think we deal with Footy Park gales better than say Princes Park gales. That's expected however. There was a fair wind blowing at the last Showdown as I remember.

Kingers has done well in the wet before, but I am hoping Mark Williams does not look on that as a reason to retain him. Anyway, the games in the wet he has done especially well in are the real mudslide games where everyone takes a tumble, not just the slightly damp ones.
