Report card on the Eagles in yesterdays Herald Sun mentions we are chasing John Barker

Surely not - He is a tough body and can take some contested marks, but FFS he will be 29 in February.

I'm hoping this rumour is unfounded.

there is no way that the hawks will trade baker.

when baker plays the hawks win.

John Barker

Height 194cm
Weight: 89kg
Date of Birth: 19 February 1975

David Seirakowski

Height 193cm
Weight: 106kg
Date of Birth: 29 December 1974

2 months age difference.

I don't see him as a target for us. We could have kept Seirakowski on the list for less money than we would have to fork out for Barker

difference is that baker is good.

Could you imagine the tears if the hawks traded barker... There was a river of them when they got rid of croad... Most male hawthorn supporters want to make man love to him..... no chance he will go west....

no way I could see our recruiting staff going for John Barker - at least Matt Richardson is a reasonably good footballer on his day.

Matty Richardson is an 80-goal a season CHF/FF on his day.

Dunno why people wouldn't want Richardson. He, coupled with our midfielders and emerging talls, would IMO could take us to to the verge of a premiership. I'd be happy if we gave up our 1st rd pick for him (not much more, due to his age).

If the Eagles recruit Barker, I will start barracking for the Dockers.

It wouldn't be so bad, but its not the direction the club should be going.

I'm a big fan of building your own team rather than bringing in "ringers"

unless of course its Jade Rawlings, then I'll accept that with open arms ;)

Surely our club is not that stupid. Going after a 29 year old is alright if he is an absolute superstar who will bring us glory. Barker does not fit into that category.

Barker - no thanks.

I'd rather get the Hawthorn forward who has a chicks name.

assuming he is fit and we can get him for a reasonable price.

he is a very good player.

of course, having said this, there is no chance hawthorn would deal him.

I dont think Hawthorn would trade him....EVER!! The Hawk fans love him, and im with some other people on this board why not go after Jade Rawlings. The Hawks are obviously looking to trade him and he would fit perfectly into the Eagles side. He could play CHF or CHB. He is relatively young and would fit in nice and cosy with Daniel Chick.

He would also be asking for a big salary, and the hawks would want a lot in return for him. At to that that Geelong are after him, and I think there is zero chance of us getting Rawlings.

From the way Hawthorn people are talking, i get the feeling there is more chance of Rawlings than Hay- at least Jade is out of contract? given their salary cap situation, it really comes down to who can offer a more attractive set of draft picks- we'd probably have to do some on trading to get a decent chance at him.

I'd prefer Rawlings to Hay, because I think our two most gaping holes are CHB/CHF. McDougall looks great in either forward position, but Glass has showed promise at FB, particularly over the last few weeks of this year. A bit more beef on his frame, and he looks reasonable.
But about the best we can hope for at CHB is Gaspar coming up as a CHB, which is frankly an enormous gamble- he might stay fit and have that season we've all been waiting for, but he might not- and Gaspar staying fit is something i wouldn't want to lay odds on.

Rawlings is a reasonably mobile player capable of playing at either end of the ground. He's probably one of the half dozen really elite kpps in the competition who will take the contested mark in a 50/50 contest 7 times out of 10. He'd give us a a decent CHB when we were running and gunning and winning it out of the centre, and a CHF target capable of marking when the game slowed down, and we were forced to kick to contests. Personally, I'd be happy if we thought about trading Cox, or maybe even Wirrpunda, to get the draft picks necessary to pick up Rawlings.

for all the above reasons you said ... I'd agree. Although he's only downside is he can't kick for sh1t. I just love the idea of having a CHF he can take 12 marks a game. We've never had one. And as you said, he has the ability to play back as well.

we had mitchell white in about 1996. He was reasonable for a year or 2 but your right i think we need a CHF more then we need a backman.

Where in the heck did you get JB's name from? I know that none of the Hawthorn players are moving. We have had a few retirements. The main aim is to keep them all together so that they can bond.

If the hawks were to give somebody up for trade it would either be David Loats or Robert Campbell.

He told me himself while we were down the pub a few weeks ago. He's my cousin.

Apparently John Worsfold SMS'd an offer to him, because I got it on my phone too.
