Reported on the news that he wants out of Fremantle. Do we want him, and if so, what would we be willing to give for him? Last year I would have said no but I think he has actually improved alot this year. If we were to trade for him, I wouldn't give up more than a 3rd round pick, or a fringe player of our own like Munro.

Munro? Pfft.

TLo is a capable player and it is unfortunate for him that CC doesn't seem to rate him.

Will be sad to see him go, but I can see where he's coming from.

That said, I hope Freo think long and hard before trading with your blokes again as we always seem to be the loser.

actually i think we've come out neutral in our trades ie both recieved hacks. Harding and Carroll spring to mind, neither should be or shouldn't have been on our list.

I was quite impressed with Troy Longmuir late in the season, and I don't think he'd be too bad a pick up. I'd consider a trade that's fairly low key to be OK, but I wouldn't want the club to pay too much for him. I'd happily see the Eagles give up Munro for him , but in reality I think he is probably worth a little more than Munro at the moment. Chambers would be a possibility as he seems to be surplus to requirements, but as a Victorian he might not want to head to another WA club should he leave the Eagles.

When we've traded directly its usually turned out lose-lose, but its really in the early days when Freo took uncontracted players from us and we got compensation picks we cleaned up. However Freo never had those picks themselves, so its not quite the same.

Don't think the Dockers would go for Chambers, even if he agreed to a trade. Not sure who else we have that they might be interested in who we would be willing to let go. I suspect we won't end up making an offer for Longmuir.

The player we could really do with from you guys would be Daniel Kerr...

seems like a reasonable trade to me... Troy Longmuir for Daniel Kerr. We'll chuck in a 3rd rounder as well if you like.

Go on - whaddya reckon??

Win - win all round.....;)

Why do Fremantle supporters, aside from Kenny_01, keep asking for Daniel Kerr?

Cos he's bloody good and we need an in and under...
Just kidding anyway. Much as I love T-Lo, he's not exactly in the same league as Kerr...:)

But T-Lo is better than both Munro and Chambers...
I just hope he stays at Freo and gets more of a run next year.

He probably would have joined us last year, had Freo not been banned from trading into the second round.

I was very keen to get him to the club last year, but I've probably cooled on the idea now.

Up forward we've got Rowan Jones playing a similar role, only he's doing it much better. Ditto with Kasey Green in the backline.

He'd be handy, but definitely not a priority.

TLo played well today, and he would be a handy player for us, but not if it cost us too much.

I would still like to see him at the Eagles as he could play a variety of roles. I am bemused by the fact he hasn't been a regular in the Freo team, he is better than some of the regulars they have had all season.

I'd just like to say that West Perth were not the same without him and it's no coincidence that we kicked 9 goals to 0 in the 2nd quarter today when he found his range up forward.

Having said that, his best position is up forward on the flank or in the pocket and that's one area I think the Eagles have covered (though I like the idea of playing Longmuir up forward and Sampi at the back, to take the weight off Wirra), so yes, I'd take him, but wouldn't pay too much and it's not our priority.

I don't see the merit in us picking up Longmuir - we don't really need any smalls.

If this traed got some momentum, Chambers for Longmuir straight swap I reckon would be a defineate possibility, and I'd say we'd ontrade Longmuir for a tall player from another club.

I just think Longmuir has more of a reputation in Victoria than Chambers, hence higher trade value for us if we wanted to get a tall........

But I doubt we'd get involved in it - As I said, if we do any trading this year, I don't see us trading for anything other than a really quality footballer......We're not a team rebuilding anymore, we're a team preparing for a prmiership onslaught.

Genuine half-forward specialists are difficult players to find and it is an extremely difficult position to play...T.Lo is very good at it!
I'd think he'd make a massive contribution to our forward line.
Once we get a tall down there, be it McDougall, Hansen,Lynch,Gaspar,Johnson, whoever, plus Fido and T.Longmuir you'd be guaranteed at least 10 goals a game between the three of them with our midfield.
His goal sense is terrfic, he's quick and can mark, he'd fit our style with his long-kicks as well...worth a trade.
Perhaps our second-round pick? Or Josh Wooden straight swap....Dockers need a tagging midfielder.....

Guaranteed - I think not. Crap delivery is going to hurt him just as much as anyone else who's played there.

Not sure about Longmuir though it would probably free up Sampi into the midfield, where I would love to see him play long term. He is by far the most creative midfielder (Cus and Judd aside) and those skills are just out of this world.

Has any one thought about Green on half forward flank. He is tough, good mark for his size and whilst he may be half a step slow his body work can compensate for that in attack?

Is it purely coincidence that Wossha was at the game yesterday and Longmuir had a cracker of a game and really brought some spirit to the team?

longmuir had a great game but chambers had a better one. it will be interesting to see where his future lies.

I would dispute that. Chambers scored one more goal and did play well but made a couple of mistakes early that cost us. Anyway, they're both good players, but suited to different roles.

I'm guessing the Eagles would want Longmuir more than the Dockers need Chambers, but I hope we can have both. But I'm not dying over either of these. Interestingly on some radio station I tuned into this morning by accident, some bod said "I am 99% sure Troy Longmuir will not be at the Dockers next year - and he might well be up the road at the Eagles".

But who knows?

I rate Troy but not overly.

Where would we play him, as a forward or out of the halfback line ??

noodle

you would have to play him in the forward line. he is such a naturally attacking player.

Realistically, would Troy Longnmuir be in our best 22?

Personally I don't think so. Marginally so, at best. He's competing with the Jones, Green, Morrison, Collica, Haynes of the team for a spot. May offer a bit of variety to those players but across the board I wouldn't say he's any better.

How old is he? 24, around there? At that age there is no upside / potential to develop. So apart from immediate depth, what's the point in trading for him? If the Eagles were dead keen maybe the pre-season draft would be the best option.

If I was Nissy, I wouldn't trade for him.

Have you seen him play for West Perth this year?

I think he would provide a marking target across the half forward line and about 2 goals a game. Apart from Embley and Jones, we have no one who can consistently play there.

It's not our biggest weakness, but worth having if the price is right.

Also, 24 is a good age, not a disadvantage. We're not running a kids nursery, or even St Kilda, who will always be good next year.

I've probably seen 4 or 5 of his games this year and he has fluctuated between being a contributor to being dominant. He's played exceptionally well for most of the year I'll give him that but that doesn't automatically translate to AFL.

I didn't mention Sampi or Matera before, plus Haynes if he moves up the ground.

From where I am coming from he doesn't meet a huge need we have, he isn't young enough to have "untapped potential", and just because he's from perth and lives in perth does not mean we should stockpile local players. He's a good player, I'm just not convinced he could make us better.

definetaly not thw orst suggesiton I've ever heard, but with the lack of quality and depth down in our backline, he is definetaly required in our backline.

Not flashy, not pretty, not overly talented, but gets the job done every week for us, so I don't see him moving out of defence for quite a while....

One reason I suggest Green on half forward line is that our backline is already slightly slow and I see Collica as a better pure one on one defender. Green is a more of an attacking defender and Wirra is doing a great job in that role.

I would also support Haynes at a half forward line I think he does have serious talent but he is not a full forward.

My Half Back line would be:

Green Lynch Haynes

Jones would get specific tagging jobs throught he mid field and changing in the forward pocket. Sampi would change with him therfore exposing him more to the midfield. Matera and McDougal would be the other two forwards.

Embly would go into centre or on the wing.

And that worries me because I'm not sure the West Perth Half Back Line is much worse (once you take into account the part time element etc):

Curley Lecras Koops

What the Eagles really need to develop is a strong rebounding half back line (and in fact full back line too), because I don't see many teams winning flags without a strong defence that can turn defence into attack quickly.

We've hidden this weakness to some extent with a dominant midfield and the scoring capacity to beat teams in high-scoring shootouts, plus the amazing David Wirrpunda.

OOOPPPSS I made a mistake!!!

Instead of Half Back Line - that should read a Half Forward Line DOH...

ie

Green Lynch Haynes...

For anyone interested my Half Back Line would be

Hunter/Collica Gasper Wirra/Chambers

and yes I am sitting on the fence with regard to my flanks!

What also worries me is that I cannot find a place for Jacko any more... maybe the bench, or in case Gasper does not work out?

Well that's a relief.

I stand by the rest of what I said though.

To me, one of the keys about the Half Forward Line is the ability to lock the ball in the forward 50 ie to defend the forward 50. That was the main reason we lost so many away games in Woosha's first year - only Phil Matera ever did it well.

The HF line you've stated has a long long way to go to achieve that.

To run with your argument though surely having Green in the half forward line allows us to try and lock the ball in.

Also having Lynch at CHF allows him to split packs and our crumbers to to their job.

Haynes gives us extra, long kicking and combined witha decent mark for his size and only getting a thrid best defender means that he becomes a very good forward.

I think given our list that is the best half forward line we can put on the field.

My perception of the 3 players on the HF line is as follows (only my opinion and I respect yours, even though I completely disagree with it):

Green - a midfielder a lot of the time in the WAFL, but converted into a defensive flanker/marker of AFL opposition smallish forwards. Better when he's facing the play rather than having to turn. Just because you were a defender doesn't mean to say you can defend the forward 50 - in fact I'd rather an attacking player who can be taught to defend (like Fido).

Lynch - a conundrum - where should we play him? Good size, in fact a monster, and a very long kick. Can tend to spray them when up forward, but (when beaten in the WAFL, not tested at AFL level) tends to drop his head when beaten at the back. Looks physically like a young Jako and has a similar temperament I think. Not a great overhead mark for his size. My preference would be to play him at FB (against a Lynch-type opponent) or CHB, but occasionally switch to the forward line when needed. I don't think he's athletic enough or capable of turning to play for any length of time at CHF.

Haynes - physically he should be a HFF, but I just don't think he ever will be. Second efforts are poor and the Eagles always look a worse side away from home when he plays there because he is hopeless at defending the forward 50. Has been physically ready for AFL for at least 2 years, but to my mind is not smart enough to play HFF.

So, my HF line for next year is:

Embley or Jones (normally I have Embley as a tall wingman and Jones as a tagger, but at any one time, one should be there)
McDougall (right shape, goalkicking ability, marks well)
Chick (tough, defends well, tackles, frightens defenders, leader).

This gives height, marking power, aggression, goalkicking ability and the ability to defend the forward 50, especially on the flanks.

As regulars would know, I would acquire Troy Longmuir at the right price and play him HFF in an instant.

Troy Longmuir unlike most of our forward or back flankers, is a genuine flanker type player who will fit the role quite well.

He's not that appealing to most because:
- he's been badly used and coached at th Dockers
- chances are lacking for a player who use to be top 22 in the side
- his talent wasted in the WAFL

he may be 24 but he's an embley-type who could stun the competition with a strong pre-season and a new start to a career.
