Hi all,
Having played a couple of games of Aussie Rules in high school, and become a really keen fan since K & Izzy switched over, I am really keen to play more seriously.
I live at Caboolture and work at Maroochydore, so any club south of Maroochydore and north of Chermside would be ideal location-wise for me.
I am looking for a club in that region, I am content to not play this year if my skills and fitness are not up to standard and just train with the team for the remainder of the season to play next season if need be.
I am not sure what the "Divisions" mean in terms of standard - I presume Division 2 is a higher standard than Div 3? But a lot of the Div 2 teams have ressies as well? I would like to start at a level where I can at least be competent when I do play, and develop myself from there, so if that's Div 3 or Div 2 reserves, I don't mind.
I know we have a local team at Caboolture - does anyone know what sort of level they are at?
A bit of background on me...
I live in Caboolture and am a local rugby league player with a Sunshine Coast club (work up here). Having played union as a centre/winger previously, I had a couple of years off, and decided to play league this year. Due to weight gain of 15kgs over my time off I have been playing second-row forward, but find the perpetual straight line running quite boring, and have little involvement in setting up and taking part in plays, and am basically forbidden from passing or kicking the ball, contesting the ball in the air, or doing anything other than the most basic running and tackling. I have lost 9 kgs so far in a hope of making a move back out to centre at least part-time, but now am lucky to get a game in the forwards. I don't mind not playing, if the coach is giving me guidance on how to improve my game and regularly make the team - this is not happening where I am.
In terms of physical aptitude for the game, I am 192cm and 104kgs at present - I understand I am probably a few kgs too heavy, but am ready to put in the work to lose them and tone up. In terms of fitness - definitely behind the eight-ball, capable of a 2-hour training session, but not match-intensity running for a full match. Kicking - would need work on distance - am a competent attacking kicker (grubbers, chip kicks and bombs) in league, but only 40 metres on my drop punt (25-30 on left foot). I am happy to put in the hard yards to develop my game awareness, kicking skills, hand-balling etc.
Sorry about the long post - if anyone knows a club in my area that I could suit who would take me mid-season, let me know. Otherwise, I will keep working on fitness and kicking at league training, and start proper training in the off-season/pre-season.
Thanks guys!
